About This Mod

The mod allows you to use up to seven alien colors. The purpose of this fashion is to color alien leaders and bosses, but it can also color ordinary aliens; for EW vanilla players, the alien's "level" is considered his "shared HP".

To get started, I recommend using the following mod to change the alien base colors: New Alien Colours. These are well-developed versions of basic skins. The above mod and my mod are 100% compatible.

Features.

This mod repaints alien skins (including zombies) and exalt characters. Available colors include:

White (for thin people and drones)

Black (not available to Thin Men and Drones)

Brown (not available to thin people and drones)

Blue

Purple (not for Mutton Elite)

Red (not for Elite Ram)

Gold (not for Elite Ram)

Orange (Exalts only)

Green (Exalts and Zombies only)

For each alien character, you can determine which skin (color) will be used when reaching a certain leader level (HP for vanilla EW). There can be multiple definitions for a single alien species. Skins defined at Leader Level 0 are applied to standard enemies that are not leaders.

For example, a 1st-level leader might be white, a 5th-level leader might be brown, and a 9th-level leader might be gold.

How to do this, described in the file DefaultCharSkins.ini.

Using the Ctrl+L (Debug hack) shortcut, you can artificially raise the level of all aliens (only the level flag, not their actual status or advantage). This helps test different colors without waiting for the leader to emerge. This shortcut cycles through levels 0 through 9 (moving to 10 returns the level to 0). It only works in the Long Battle.

The Alt+Ctrl+S (debug interrupt) shortcut can be used to force all aliens to re-wear their skins if some colors are reset or look wrong.

In the configuration folder, you will find the file DefaultCharacterSkins_testing.ini. You can replace the original DefaultCharacterSkins.ini file (having previously backed it up) with this file. This ini maps each color to a different level (without skipping), so you can easily check the alien in the game by pressing Ctr+L when you see it.

Vanilla EW users: If you've never used a mutator-based mod before (such as my MiniModsCollection or Tracktwo's Line of Sight Indicators) and you don't have a DefaultMutatorLoader.ini file, the game requires additional action to enable mutators in the game. Read the instructions in the Read Me section of my mini mod collection. You can also find the required XComMutatorEnabler patch in the MiniModsCollection download.
