UI Mod Manager
About This Mod
Important warning for gamers.
This manager is not like the "Steam Workshop", which can scan your drive for mod files, install and remove them. The manager works only in the game, only with mutator-based mods, and only with mods that you manually install outside the game. You will see mods and their options in the list only if you have added the corresponding line in DefaultModsProfile.ini.Mini. The mod collection gives you instant access to more than 30 mods that can be customized in-game.
Mod packs confirmed for use by UI Mod Manager
Line of sight indicators (an option provided by the UI mod manager; approved by 'tracktwo')
Long War Mutators (not all Long War mods." Random Spawn "Only Mutators.")
Mini mod collection (gives a complete overview of the functionality of UI Mod Manager)
Squadron Unleashed 2 (many maneuvers of ships during air combat and much more)
Special SHIV slot (don't waste space for a soldier - SHIV has a special Sky Rangers slot)
Floor manager (convenient ratio slider and additional customizable status changes)
Main features.
The manager has four tabs. The first tab is used to turn modes on and off; the second tab is used to set the currently selected mode if the mode author has published options for setting (otherwise, this tab is not available); the third tab is used to set the mode manager itself; the third tab is used to set the mode state if the mode is currently selected (otherwise, this tab is not available). There are no special settings here, but you can
- Check the option to sort modes alphabetically.
- Check the option to always show "selected" modes at the top of the list and unselected modes at the bottom.
- Enable/Disable Administrator Confirmation/Warning pop-up.
The last tab allows you to save/download all options and mod lists in a fashion profile - you can have many profiles, for example, for Long Battle, for LW Rebalancing, etc. We recommend that you save all your settings to your profile at least once, so you can have your personal preferences and easily restore them with a few clicks. Profiles do not replace "default" settings - pressing Restore Defaults restores default settings specified in DefaultModsProfile.ini (settings of the author of the mode). Restore profiles will restore individual user profile data.
Before I report this as an error: when you run UI Mod Manager for the first time, it makes the credits screen appear without closing the screen :) It's a small tribute to me (I'm a professional programmer, not a self-taught XCOM modder) who spent 5-6 months learning how to write (and then constantly maintain) this script.
Mod Profiles.
Since version 1.4, the manager supports several mod profiles. The list of selected mods and their options can be saved in the user profile. You can add a brief description to your profile. These settings are not overwritten and can be restored if something breaks; the list of mods and options is reset each time you update DefaultModsProfile.ini, but the settings can be easily restored from a saved user profile.
Access and Navigation
Access.
To access the Modes menu:
1. from the main menu after the game starts, to the right of the button "Start Game/Long Battle".
2. from the difficulty menu when starting a new game.
3. during the campaign - from the menu "Change difficulty". When you start the Change Complexity tab, the Modes menu button appears.
4. During the campaign - from the "Pause" menu through the "Active mutators" button, the "Mods" menu button appears.
Management.
First of all, the manager offers full controller/controller support. Other.
Mouse users can scroll long text descriptions using the mouse wheel or small navigation arrows.
Mouse users can click on the additional "name" to see the description.
Controller users cannot scroll text until they "switch" the current focus (right trigger) to the description field.
Controller user: Right-click again to return navigation to the options/modes list.
Gamepad users: Navigating between tabs works the same way as navigating through the main Game Options menu.
Some changes applied outside the main menu (while playing) will not be applied until the next mission or after rebooting save or restart the mission.
Note for modders.
Work with comments in DefaultModsProfile.ini, there are more examples in DefaultMiniMods.ini. How to add mod to the list, how to add options for mod, how to select widgets for options (checkboxes, spinners, combo boxes, etc.). Most of the above are just one line in DefaultModsProfile.ini (check the comments). The Modders Guide is currently being created in the Documentation folder. Writing mutators is beyond the scope of this manual.
Installation order.
1. Unzip files to any folder.
2. 2. Copy the files to the destination folder.
By default, the path to the XEWXComGame folder is:
Windows: Windows: C:³ Files (³x86)³ Steam³ SteamApps³ common³ XCom³ Enemy-Unknown³ XEWComGame.
Linux: Linux: /home/YOURUSERNAME/.steam/steam/steam/steamapps/common/XCom-Enemy-Unknown/xew/xcomgame
MAC: ~/Library/Application Support/Steam/steamapps/common/XCom-Enemy-Unknown/XCOMData/XEW/XComGame
3. Go to the Config folder of the game (the folder where you just copied the files).
4. go to the Config folder of XEWXComGame (the folder where you just copied the file) and browse to the DefaultGame.ini file.
5. Open it in Notepad or any other txt editor. Add the following two lines at the top ("BasedOn=. ") and just below:
[XComGame.XComGameInfo].
XComGame.XComGameInfo] +ModNames="XComModShell.UIModManager"
Note: If you already have a [XComGame.XComGameInfo] section (from MiniMods), do not duplicate it. Add +ModNames= instead. Add a line
(_DefaultGame.ini is included in the installation file, so you can see how the above string appears in the file).
