About This Mod

Change the benefit of a field surgeon to gradually increase the reduction in duration with medical rank.

Currently, the advantage of a field surgeon in the Long War borders on horror and is not recommended wiki.


This mod tries to fix this and make a doctor working only for a medic more viable in the campaign.


The benefit description is as follows:


Field Surgeon.

Reduces the Wound Timer for HP damage soldiers that are not seriously injured. Does not affect wounds received when sending tired soldiers on missions.

If you are in doubt whether to take "Field Surgeon", you can not take. This advantage has no effect in real combat, and its effect on the game's strategic level is minimal.

Its impact on the strategic level of the game is minimal at best, and absent at worst.

At the end of the mission, a field surgeon removes 1 HP of combat damage from each wounded soldier before calculating fatigue/hospitalization. Wound duration is calculated by using the minimum number of HP soldiers at any given time in the mission, and the deeper the wound (before adding time to fatigue), the longer the wound duration (in linear fashion). Thus, with a field surgeon a soldier who received only 1 HP health (no armor), does not require hospital time. For soldiers with "deeper wounds" (losing more than 1 HP), the field surgeon calculates the wound time as if the maximum damage sustained in a mission were 1 less.

Mod replaces the decrease by 1 HP with the following formula:

Decrease HP = (Medical rank * 4 + 2)/10

This means that the HP reduction will be as shown in the table below:

You can see for yourself the effect of this advantage at the end of the mission in the gallery. It was a mission in which three soldiers were wounded and they ended the mission with 1, 2 or 3 HP less than their maximum health. This means that the advantage depends on the rank of the doctor with the advantage `Field surgeon'.


Some say that even with this buffa, it is not worth choosing that advantage over Stability or Suppression, while others argue that it is OP. Try it yourself and decide for yourself. All opinions are welcome.


I believe it is a long-term investment that sacrifices the power of command damage in exchange for shorter duration of damage.
