About This Mod

Rune Magic adds a variety of unique non-combat spells and effects based on collecting rune energy from stones scattered around the map. The game also includes optional (recommended) rune exploration mechanics for the standard development of the game.

Features

22 different runes can be carved on standing stones

Thin and powerful visuals

A progressive system that rewards discoveries

Seamless union with existing worlds

Ready to use out of the box, but can be customized with configuration.

The server is authorized, so players cannot change local settings to cheat.

Game Start

Creating the Focus Rune

Runic focus is a way to extract and shape the energy of the rune. For this you will need a workbench of 2nd level or higher, a few stones and rubies.

Runic energy extraction

Next, find the rune stones. Place the Runic Focus on the top level of your inventory and press the key associated with its slot to use the Runic Focus on the Runic Stone to extract its energy. The amount of energy of the rune stored in the focus is determined by its durability.

Unlock runes.

Each runestone is bound to a certain rune, and these runes can be unlocked by extracting runestone energy. However, what runestones can unlock depends on their biome. As you move to more dangerous areas, you'll be able to unlock more useful and interesting effects.

Runes Usage

The rune's focus works just like the hammer: there is a table of possible effects, and you can choose one of them at any time. Right-click during gear to see all runes currently unlocked.

Runes on the Casting/Creation tab give instant effects. Pressing on an active site (earth or brittle stone, depending on the rune), the effect manifests itself. You can resize some by scrolling the mouse wheel. The cost of activation is usually displayed at the bottom of the screen, where the required resources are listed.

Runes on the Improvements tab are passive effects. As long as you choose one and equip Rune Focus, the effect will be active. It does not require one-time costs, but will constantly expend the energy of the rune while active.

The Engraving Tab rune is a permanent effect. You can place them on certain stones (road stones and menhirs) or on standing stones that you can build (on the Miscellaneous tab in the Hammer Building menu). The installation is only valid once and can be removed to return the cost (click the center in Focus Run). Please note that if the installed structure is destroyed, the cost will not be returned and will be lost.

Note: When you install a mod on a server, all users connecting to the server must have the same version of that mod (if you try to connect without installing or with the wrong version, you will receive an error message).

To locate a locally installed Valheim, right-click Valheim in the Steam library and select Preferences. In the left sidebar, select Local Files and browse.

Configuration.

The configuration is divided into two files, runemagic_server_config.cfg and runemagic_player_config.cfg, located in the BepInEx/config folder of your local installation of Valheim. Like runemagic.dll, they must be present on both the client and the server. If they are not present, they will be recreated when the game starts.

The server configuration contains balance related settings. This setting is synchronized for all players connected to the server, so changes made locally will take effect when you play locally, but if you connect to the server using this mode, the settings for that server will be used.

Specifically, this setting allows you to

Change the accumulated rune energy/runstone charging time and the probability of unlocking new runes when interacting with runstone.

Disable the progression system (all runes start with all unlocked runes).

Activate/deactivate each rune individually.

Set the rune energy cost for each rune.

Some different settings, such as whether the focus of the rune can be equipped during swimming.

The player's settings include full appearance settings and personal preferences. These settings apply to both local play and connecting to another server.

Translation support.

Although the mod contains only English, it supports custom translation files. Custom translation files are downloaded from the BepInEx/plugins/Translations/{languageName}/runemagic.json folder (see the list of possible folder names with languages). If there is no separate translation record, the English version is used by default.

If you want to create translation files for other languages: If the Translations folder originally exists, the English version will be saved in Translations/English/runemagic.json. This file contains all localization keys and the associated text used in this mode.
