About This Mod
A century ago, a war broke out in Europe that changed the world as we know it. With many casualties, people were forced to flee their homes, farms and apartments and fight in endless trenches.
Hearts of Iron IV: The Great War puts you in your place as one of the countries of the world during the First World War. At a time when the stakes are higher, you will have to tread carefully when it comes to diplomacy. A small mistake or bluff that goes too far could lead to the death of millions of people.
Of course, the looming war is not the only concern. Revolutions have erupted in China and Mexico, Italy is rumored to be planning to take over Libya, and the Balkans appear to have united against one of its "neighbors." Without such conflicts around the world, great powers would have lost every reason for "fun."
Conflicts are more akin to the First World War. At the beginning of the conflict, infantry dominated the battlefield, followed by large numbers of aircraft and armored vehicles. Trench systems will ravage the surface of Europe until tanks, the dream of mad engineers, leave the workshops on the battlefield. At the same time, a huge fleet of dreadnoughts will roam the seas and fight for control of them.
In complex national rivalries that stretch deep into an alternative history, two parties in the same country can reach very different conclusions. What if the French Socialists had started a civil war during the uprising? What if Italy took a different stance and decided to join the Central Powers? In Hearts of Iron IV: The Great War, the slightest difference changes everything.
