About This Mod

This mod adds "Salvaged Power Armor Components" (and a few random gears and cogs) to any NPC that dies while wearing power armor. They can be used to restore the armor frame in any settlement (located in the section "Special", requires 'Armorer 2'). In order not to clutter the menu, the heavy armor frame will not be visible if you do not have any heavy armor components in your inventory. As an extra bonus, you'll find "Damaged fusion core" along with other components (provided the suit had a core) that can be scrapped for nuclear material and some other parts.

The game also includes a version with complicated recipes, hardcore mode, and various patches. The Harder Recipes version adds increasingly rare component requirements for wireframes. In Hardcore mode (why did I call it that?), the number of saved components found on dead NPCs becomes random, with a chance to get an additional component (NPCs fall 2-7, not always 6). This patch can be combined with and does not include the Harder Recipes version.

There are patches for Buildable Power Armor Frames and Move Store and Assign Settlers to Power Armor. Both patches remove the PA Frame entry of that fashion from the workshop, and instead add a recipe at the Chemical Station for the appropriate element of the fashion frame. This patch is necessary because Fallout 4 does not like when the workshop has several entries for the same subject (see the Bugs/Problems section for details). Download this mod in front of another PA Frame mod and patch both. (Both patches are also available as one "mod + patch" esp for those who have many mods).

Note: Unlike most (all?) other mods performing a similar function, this one works on ANY NPC, including those created using mods (e.g. Power Armor Autopilot*), those who received power armor after spawn, and all those who are in between. In addition, these components cannot be obtained until the NPC dies, and are added to any NPC that dies after exiting the power armor.

*Power armor followers created before this fashion will have to reboot (remove/replace the core) before dropping components after death. However, any other NPCs that appear/enter the game prior to installing this mode will drop components as expected. That's it.

Modes can be installed

Installation:

Nexus Mod Manager (NMM)-.

Select "Load with Manager" and the NMM opens.

Click the Modes tab, if it does not already exist, select 'Simple Salvageable Power Armor Frames' and click activate.

Follow the on-screen instructions to select the correct version.

Go to the Plugins tab and make sure the plugins you selected are activated.

Start the game and enjoy.

Manual -

Extract the contents of the file 'Simple Salvageable Power Armor Frames.zip' into the Fallout 4 data directory (usually C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\fallout 4\data\).

Activate the mod using the method you prefer (plugins.txt, mod manager, etc.).

Start the game and enjoy.

If you have not already done so, be sure to enable the mod as described here

.

Warning: Do not change the name of the main esp. The script relies on it being called "Simple Salvageable Power Armor Frames.esp". If you do, it won't be able to add the saved components (and that's the point of fashion).

Uninstall:

Nexus Mod Manager (NMM).

Start NMM and select the Mods tab.

Select "Simple Salvageable Power Armor Frames" and click "Deactivate".

You're all set.

Manual -

Remove 'Simple Salvageable Power Armor Frames.esp' and all other installed .eps from Data and PowerArmorNPCCoreDestroyScript.pex from scripts.

It's done.

Compatibility:

This mod is incompatible with any mods that modify the PowerArmorNPCCoreDestroyScript script. This mod also changes the frame of the PowerArmorFrameFurnitureNoCore power armor, but only so that it has an icon in the workshop's menu. If some other mod is editing the same thing, just download it after that.
