About This Mod

UPDATE 2.0: Large-scale update that eliminates the risk of losing armor pieces. All variants of heavy armor frames can now be stored in the workshop, and as they are stored they will be transformed into "clean" heavy armor frames. You don't have to waste them anymore and hope for the best.

--------------------------------------

OVERVIEW

I love Power Armor in Fallout 4. This is one of the most well-developed parts of the game. Even if at times it may be a little overly powerful, the armor's working principle is almost perfect. Unfortunately, you're somewhat limited in what you can do with this power armor. Of course, you can use it or ask your companions to use it, but if you're like me, you probably have 20-odd spare frames of power armor that just stand around your settlements and are not used. Why don't your settlers climb into them and use them for their intended purposes? These frames are more than likely to be uncomfortable, because the only way to move them is to sit in them, move them, and then exit. Wouldn't it be nice if there was a way to fix all this?

MOD

It turns out there's a way. This mod makes Power Armor a subject that you can interact with in workshop mode. In particular, you can move it, store it, and even direct one of your settlers to climb into it. No more unused frames cluttering your settlements. Move, use, or simply store them for later use.

It is worth mentioning the last feature: as an additional bonus to the ability to store them, this mod also allows you to turn all your existing power armor frames into empty / "clean" frames that are immune to cell reset error.

DETAILS

Most likely, the above is enough to arouse your interest. But if you want to understand all the subtleties, here's the thing:

All heavy armor frames can be stored in the workshop using the "store" option in the workshop mode. However, all power armor frames that are not a "clean" option (immune to cell discard error) will be replaced with a "clean" version of the frame. You can deploy this redesigned frame for free (and without XP), effectively converting it into one that is immune to cell reset error.

Settlers can be ordered to wear heavy armor using the Assign option on the Workshop menu. Simply select the Settler, point the Power Armor over it, and click the Assign button. The settler must run up to the power armor and enter it as a companion would. If you want them out of the armor, just talk to them and they'll leave the armor immediately.

IMPORTANT NOTES/ERRORS/LIMITATIONS

First, the conversion process depends very much on the attached script. Make sure that the ConvertWorkshopItemOnStore.pex file is in the Data/Scripts folder, or you will lose your power armor frames when you store them. Also, if you are upgrading from a previous version and have copies of various Power Armor Frame items, you can use them to create new Power Armor Frames.

Second, the settlers wearing force armor will no longer perform animated tasks/jobs or remain in their assigned locations, but will roam the settlement as if they were not assigned. This does not have any REAL effect on their tasks, for example, if they are assigned to a crop, they will still be considered working for them, if they are assigned to a guard post, the game will still assume they are there, etc. It's really only a problem if you need to keep them in one particular place, or if you're finding fault with the visual effects.

Third, Settlers assigned to the Power Armor will remove the Power Armor helmet if they are already wearing a head covering, even if it is just a hat. The helmet will be stored in their inventory, and yes, they will take it with them if you ask them to leave the Power Armor. Since talking to them will simply force them to come out of the power armor, make sure you remove all their hats before assigning them to the power armor suit.

Finally, you can safely remove this mod if you're tired of it without ruining any of the heavy armor frames or losing items forever while all of the heavy armor frames are unfolded. An empty/"clean" wireframe that you can create in the Workshop is present in the base game, so it will remain even if the mod is deleted.

COMPATIBILITY

This mod changes the entries for all the power armor frames in the game. Any mod that affects these records can cause problems with this mod.

Buildable Power Armor Frames mods from Lapdragon and Movable Power Armor from Kentington make separate parts of what makes this mod, and therefore are not compatible with it. If you use this mod, do not use them. If you're not using this mod, consider using one of these.
