About This Mod
Haus des Rölers / House of Teachers
The foundation stone was laid on December 12, 1961, and the building was opened on September 9, 1964, according to the design of the architectural group Hermann Henselmann, B. Geyer and J. Streitpalt. The teachers' home was built as a meeting place for teachers, including the Berlin Teachers' Club. On the third and fourth floors (behind the surrounding frieze) was the Central Teacher's Library, created on the basis of the German Teacher's Library, one of the most important teacher's libraries in Europe with 650,000 volumes. The corresponding reading room was on the fifth floor.
House of Teachers" (in German. Haus des Lehrers) is a building near Alexanderplatz in Berlin, built in 1962-1964 during the German Democratic Republic. Its most striking feature is a mural that encircles the entire building and extends from the ground level from the second to the fifth floor. The mural, designed by artist Walter Womacka in the style of Mexican frescoes, is called "Our Life (Unser Leben)" and depicts various professional groups and aspects of life in East Germany.
