About This Mod
The DX class is a type of 49 Co-Co locomotives operated in the New Zealand national grid. Built by GE Transportation in Erie, Pennsylvania, they were delivered between 1972 and 1976. Based on the General Electric U26C, the locomotives are considered the most successful purchase in NZR history. Originally purchased for heavy freight trains on the NIMT, this class eventually spread throughout New Zealand and was also used on passenger lines. Equipped with a turbocharged V12 7FDL-12 engine producing 2,750 bhp initially and 3,000 bhp afterward, DX was the most powerful locomotive in New Zealand before the introduction of the DL class. Over the years, this type has spawned three subclasses: the DXB (with electronic traction control Brightstar), the DXC (equipped with "chutes" above the tunnel air intakes and the Brightstar system), and the DXR, completely rebuilt with a brand new engine, a new cabin and a more angular design.
