"Communicable Diseases" Mod
About This Mod
Diseases began to spread. The challenge is to contain the epidemics.
Executive summary
In the basic version of the game, everything is simple with disease: the game triggers an event, and a random number of colonists fall ill with the chosen disease. The colonists who were originally targeted are the only ones to worry about. Communicable diseases are now harder to deal with. You'll have to worry about some diseases that are transmitted between your colonists. If you're careless, your entire colony could get the flu or the plague. Animals will also carry animal flu and animal plague.
How it works
When colonists become infected with influenza or plague, they spread germs. These germs then get onto your colonists when they interact with the same environment as the infected ones. Ultimately, the germs cause your colonists to become infected.
The initial infection remains the same - accidental and sudden - because I have not yet found a good way to introduce the disease into the colony, without making it even more irritating than it already is.
Mechanoids are immune to disease.
Microbes and cleaning
Germs are almost identical to any other type of dirt in the game. Colonists assigned to clean up will be able to remove these germs from the ground just as they clean up dirt. But germs will accumulate much faster than any other kind of dirt. Keeping sick colonists isolated and having a designated cleaner working only in your hospital will be essential to reduce the spread of germs.
Investing in sterile or metal floors for your hospital will help you reduce the spread of disease if you keep these tiles clean. Avoiding dirt or allowing other dirt to accumulate in your hospital will negate the positive effect of your sterile/metal floor.
Personal protective equipment (PPE)
You should invest in PPE for your colonists, because it will allow them to move around the colony during illness and not spread so many germs. Wearing PPE also reduces the chance that germs that actually get on your colonists will actually infect them. PPE is gradually being added to this mod, so stay tuned.
