About This Mod

This mod was previously called Custom Enemy Difficulty. If you have a previous version called Custom Enemy Difficulty, you should uncheck the Custom Enemy Difficulty Level check box in Partiality Launcher.

This mod allows you to customize the strength and complexity of enemies.

In Outward, enemies become stronger when there are more than one human player in the game. Nine Dots chose several features that are amplified on enemies to balance the battle in a multiplayer game. By default, two-player enemy boost looks like this:

  • Max Health: +50%
  • Impact resistance +20 points
  • Damage +75%
  • All damage +15%

In Tougher Enemies, you can fully customize how much and what characteristics enemies will gain and how much they will gain for any number of players, including a single game.

The numbers are specified in TougherEnemiesTemplate.xml, which you should put in the Mods folder along with .dll, as usual. TougherEnemiesTemplate.xml also has a list of all feature names from which you can choose.

The kit includes two templates:

  • TougherEnemiesTemplate.xml
  • TougherEnemiesTemplate_Tougher.xml

The first is to scale the co-op by default, as Nine Dots Studio has done. This doesn't make enemies stronger in a single game.

The second option is similar to the default co-op scaling, except that enemies scale as if there were one extra player in the game. So, when you play alone, enemies scale to two players, or if you play together, enemies scale to three players, etc.

To use the second template, you must rename it to TougherEnemiesTemplate.xml.

You can edit TougherEnemiesTemplate.xml to your liking. It's very simple. If players are larger than the feature scaling levels, the maximum available feature scaling is chosen. The next version will interpolate the higher scaling characteristics.

Enjoy!

This mod was previously called Custom Enemy Difficulty.

Special thanks to Robophill, who worked with me on the original version in parallel.

Also be sure to check out the excellent Configurable Custom Difficulty mod from sewag. The Stronger Enemies and Custom Custom Custom Complexity modes differ in that Stronger Enemies change enemy characteristics in stages, and Custom Custom Complexity changes the player's basic characteristics.
