The Legend of the Shadow of Sèvres

A Brief History.

The Turkish nationalist movement was crushed, and the Treaty of Sèvres was successfully implemented by the Allies. Greece expanded the western Anatolian coast and, with the consent of Great Britain, annexed the International Straits region. Armenia took control of the newly acquired western part of the country, and Kurdistan was liberated after a successful referendum. Azerbaijan's vast oil reserves are developed by British companies and exported via Georgia.

Greece.

Greece received the western coast of Anatolia under the Treaty of Sèvres because of its large population and historical and cultural significance. It is now a monarchy, and Prime Minister Venizelos is widely popular, having managed to unite Greece’s political factions, which have been divided since independence. Yet these divisions persist, and a change in leadership could be the worst that can happen.

Turkey.

Deposed, divided, and humiliated, Turkey remains the remnant of the great empires that preceded World War II. Turkey is now at a crossroads: can it realize its national ambition of regaining its territory and establishing itself as a regional power to be reckoned with in the East? Sultan Abdulmezid II is a stern, if incompetent, ruler. Time will tell whether his archaic methods lead to the extremists’ overthrow and usurpation of power.

Armenia.

A bastion of Christianity since the Middle Ages, Armenia has evolved from a ravaged state at the whim of the Ottoman Empire into a cosmopolitan democratic state located in eastern Anatolia and the Caucasus. Feeding on the blood of those who unwittingly gave their lives for the state, Armenia is fortifying itself on the territory acquired under the Treaty of Sèvres, developing a prosperous economy, and desperately trying to attract investment and repatriation from the diaspora.

Georgia.

Since its modern birth, Georgia, as a social-democratic state, has smoothly become an ally of Britain on the world stage.

Azerbaijan.

The first secular democracy in the Muslim world, backed by vast oil resources, Azerbaijan is facing a gathering storm trying to defend its interests. Cooperation with British oil companies can be hastily arranged - and easily canceled - as can the liberation of the Azerbaijani diaspora from the peoples of Georgia, Armenia, and Iran, and, finally, the fight against the noisy province of Karabakh.
