About This Mod

Hard links are a very convenient feature in computing that allows linking data from multiple areas of the file system. The data is physically stored, for example, in the inode 69420, and two different "files" refer to it. For the user, it looks like a copy of a single file, but it's actually the same file!

This is great for Fallout: London because the GOG installer asks us to unpack the game files somewhere and then run the installer to copy them.

This is an alternative to using MO2 or another mod manager, which is suitable for situations where you are playing a fairly minimal game setup and do not need a mod manager.

The only disclaimer when using hard links is that all references to a file must reside on the same file system. If you installed Fallout 4 on /dev/sda1, then the files for Fallout London must be on /dev/sda1.

Instructions

Using Wine or innoextract, unzip the GOG installer to the same file system as Fallout 4, and then place the installer.sh file in that directory. Call it at the command prompt as follows:

./installer.sh —install /path/to/Fallout\ 4

You can also uninstall FOLON using:

./installer.sh —uninstall /path/to/Fallout\ 4

Disclaimer

This script I did for myself. It works for me, and I thought it might be useful for others. It may corrupt your installation of the game. Use backups and be careful.
