About This Mod
The Save Our Ship 2 mod for Rimworld is a complete reconstruction of space flight. Build fortifications in orbit, explore the wreckage of ancient ships and travel between the distant worlds of RimWorld!
In vanilla RimWorld, the ship's sole purpose is to act as an expensive winning condition; SoS2 aims to make the ship an integral part of the gameplay in medium and late games. Once the base ship is built and launched into orbit, it performs many functions: as a (mostly) raiding-free space to store a small number of loot and colonists; as a resource sink when extended to the space station; and, most importantly, as a starting point for orbital quests anywhere on the planet as a means of moving quickly to and from anywhere on the planet.
Getting a ship into orbit in SoS2 is much easier than in vanilla. The base ship only needs a bridge, sensors, a shuttle compartment, and chemical-fueled engines to launch. Once in orbit, it can be expanded at will.
Planetary travel in SoS2 is different than in the previous game. Instead of starting a new game by building a Johnson-Tanaka engine, you can jump between worlds at the touch of a button. All previous worlds are preserved, and planets can be revisited. When you leave the world, you can transfer ownership of the colony to one of the Alliance factions, and if you choose to return, it will be able to prosper as a settlement of that faction. Perhaps your descendants will be thankful enough to give you a present.
