About This Mod

This solution I made for the PC version of RDR.1 after playing with several available reshads designed for Reality Redemption. The problem I encountered was that the available repainting either A) did very little and changed little, or B) did very much and reduced performance.

This mod is designed to balance these things. I went over every Reshade fix and adjusted every parameter until I got an improved image at any time of day/night and in any weather, while removing some expensive improvements that IMO thought were not worth the performance penalty. This preset avoids unnecessary effects and uses the updated settings of the PC version. Be sure to follow the in-game settings as they were designed with them in mind.

The objectives of this crackdown were:

-Make overflow preset designed especially for PC version and designed for SDR. image (maybe later you can make HDR.)

-Give the image a more modern "look" and feel without going crazy or changing it in an extreme way, partly by using improved, adjusted ambient lighting, improved movement and sharpening

-Maintain vanilla-like brightness with a slight increase in contrast, especially at night

-Adjust SSR (reflections in screen space) to balance their use without excessive grit or artifacts

-use of LUT and color correction to improve color palette - in particular, the abandonment of the green shade in vanilla

-find a balance between useful effects and performance, avoiding any effects that take more performance away than they cost.

In 1440p, I've gone from a maximum of 138+ fps (my personal limit of fps on a PC) to a range of 100-120 on an RTX 4080 - so it will have some performance impact, but not as much as some heavier repainting using tons of FX.

Installation:

1) Install the current version of Reshade in the RDR. folder using the .rdr exe file.

2) Drag and drop or copy/paste this ini into the same folder

3) Start RDR.

4) In the in-game Graphics section, you will need the following settings:

-Shadow quality recommended is "high" or lower

-Soft shadows "CHSS" is recommended, but it is a personal choice

-Blend shadows"dithered"

-Smoothing: I used AMD FSR 3 and Native AA, but you can improve performance with DLSS if you want. If you use AMD FSR 3, lower the extra sharpness to the end because this preset uses its own CAS, which looks better than this one, but using both overloads the sharpness and it starts to look crazy/cartoonish

-Motion blur is set to "improved" - I played with various motion fx options and found that uber motion + in-game improved works better, whereas vort motion blurs the card and seems to use more resources.

As with the default setting, you can access the Reshade menu by clicking Home. I added the "numpad /" key as a toggle to turn the rebuild on and off so you can easily compare and see if it fits your tastes.

Additional note: this should be the case, but make sure you click on Edit Global Processor definitions in the Reshade itself and make sure that RESHADE_DEPTH_INPUT_IS_REVERSED is set to 0 - if it says 1, change this value.

Optional:

It is important to note that NeoBloom and DOF are subjective, and you may find that you like it better without either of them or both. I think Neobloom adds a nice touch - I set it very soft, especially when compared to some other presets, but ANY amount seems to really bloom the whole menu, so if you're concerned about it, just uncheck it. The DOF has been carefully configured to ensure that the blur at the appropriate distance is not too intense, but definitely gives a nice side in cutscenes and some real world situations.

Also, if you want to improve performance, you can either 1) disable SSR in UBER_RT fx (just uncheck), or 2) lower the "denoising" setting in Enable SSR settings. In my preset it is set to 4. Reducing this parameter improves performance, but at the expense of more noise/grain.

This is my first fashion in my life. Please give an honest, constructive review, and if you like, please approve. Try it out, it really looks better in the game than I can impart in the images because of the effects of motion and lighting.
