The mercenary system in mount and blade 2: bannerlord doesn't work the way Warband does. This fashion will be fine. If you decide to become a mercenary, you will be offered a 30-day contract; after 30 days you will be offered another 30-day contract, or you can refuse. If you refuse, your relationship will not be damaged.
