About This Mod

Levy Captain is a thought experiment that aims to rationalize the unity tree of each group by removing unnecessary steps and emphasizing asymmetries of groups. This is a complete restructuring of the forces of the major factions, which replaces the existing force trees. Mount & Blade has always presented special challenges in its development. Players are encouraged to create elite armies. Whether it is the old knights of Swadian or the Nordic huskars, the new Imperial Palatine Guard, or the Xite heavy horseback archers/foot/dulcans/markmen, there is no other use for these units except as a stepping stone for the first two or three levels, at the beginning of the game or at the end of the tree. Captains Levi is thus a thought experiment born from the Flag Bearer installation. There will be no more armies composed of the pure knights of Swadian or the riflemen of Rhodock. To this end, mod restricts the promotion of the common soldier even under the protection of (playing into power) the warlord, so that most players build their armies based on different levels of commoners, irregulars and semi-professionals, rather than ending the game with an endless wave of elite units, thus reducing the ability for commoners to meet them and confront them to favor the elite. Ideally, T2-T3 units would constitute the bulk of the army, faction-strength T4, and a more limited number of noble troops. To this end, the tree has been completely revised, so that all major factions consist mainly of T3 units, with a small number of T4 units (such as the Sturgian Heavy Infantry and the Vlandian Strike Cavalry) playing according to the faction's strengths. The tree of nobility has also been reworked or adjusted with slight abbreviations where necessary to compensate for missing units (e.g. no horses are required when the Wallachian brave or Aserai tribesmen already have horses). Note that this is ultimately the realization of a thought experiment and can therefore have a significant impact on the balance of the game, making some factions much stronger or weaker than before. Further changes will be made depending on the results of the thought experiment. The file guide contains this overview and other technical notes, as well as explanations for the revision of each faction. It is a mixture of legends, headcanons and simple general notes, in which we hope to explain what is behind each unit and how they are provided in the project. The manual is not necessarily required, but you can read or not read it as you wish. In addition, the VirtuallyIdiotic series of mods (including Imperial Reforms) served as inspiration for this fashion. Also thanks to Mandemon for their feedback on the tree units and down. Installation: Download the mod to the desired location on your computer and unzip the files if you did not unzip directly to the Modules folder, place the Levy Captain folder in the Modules folder in Bannerlord (for Steam, Steamsteamapps), copy or move it to the Modules folder in Mount & Blade II Bannerlord. Enable Levy Captain in the selected mod launcher. Make sure that Levy Captain is under the local files section of the launcher. Start the game and start a new campaign to conquer and win in Calradia. Compatibility This module redefines the culture template and the party template for the main factions and their main hero parties (e.g., Army of the Lord). This means that modules that affect them will conflict with Levy Captains. Modules that have no impact must remain compatible. For use in existing campaigns: Since this is a revision mod, it is not recommended to install it in the middle of the campaign. This is technically possible because this change complements existing units rather than removing them, but it also means that standard units in the game will be left in place until they are naturally removed from the game. No tests have been done to find out how this will affect the balance, so do it at your own risk. This also means that if a future patch adds a troop-generating story event, the mod will create official units for it, which will help prevent the crash of the game after the patch. However, because it is an optional mode, it cannot be removed from the save file. If the unit was created by mod, the save file will no longer work without mod. Otherwise, the unit will not be found and will crash. If you want to edit units yourself, you can replace the LC_Troops.xml file in the module data with your favorite text editor. But do so at your own risk. If you want to mix this mod with other changes to the Troop Tree, it is recommended to move the mod-substituter below this mod, as it is a full-scale modification affecting all factions. This will allow this fashion to override other modes. However, since this mode is not intended to be mixed with other unit tree modes, it has not been tested with other unit tree modes.
