What would happen if the shogunate had won the Boshin War?

In 1867, a revolt broke out in Japan. The feudal lords tried to restore the emperor and overthrow the shōgun. However, with the reforms of Leon Rocher and the help of foreign powers, the shogunate was able to win, despite its inferiority. Despite the victory, however, the shogunate was weakened. As the years went by, the shogunate was increasingly falling behind, and the old feudal model became a sticking point for Japan. Then came the unrest in Chiba, when a large group of Japanese peasants attacked the American cruiser Saratoga in 1917. Outraged by the unrest and incompetence of the shogunate, a US-led coalition force was formed. The operation, known as the "Patie Expedition", was to deal a fatal blow to the shogunate.

When General George Edwin Paty's allied forces ravaged Japan and humiliated its army, the Japanese peasants rose up. This uprising, known as the Kyoto Revolution, led to the general's flight and the surrender of Japan. As a result, the Provisional Government of Japan was established and several cities were ceded. For five years, however, Japan seemed to thrive under a new order. Then the Great Kantō earthquake destroyed everything. Countless people were suffering and dying, and it became clear that the government could not help the people. Soon, people began to look for other sources of stability. Thus began the rise of the Yakuza, the revival of clans, socialist parties, and ultra-nationalism.

It seemed that things couldn’t get worse for Japan, but the stock market crash decided the country’s fate. As people lost their jobs and the economy crumbled, trust in government was all but lost. 1930 marked the end of Japan. A socialist revolt and a weakened government led to a military coup. The navy refused to participate in the coup, and the rise of various regional and restoration movements led to the coup's failure and its demise into civil war, which escalated into general unrest. That was years ago. Japan was once again in a wartime situation. It was the Second War.
