About This Mod

What is ULTRA?

The aim of HOI4 ULTRA is to give Heart of Iron a historic atmosphere. Our goal was to make as few changes as possible to the vanilla version and bring it into line with the real historical balance of the game, which is designed for multiplayer.

Our original goal was to give the industry a historical look, but we also decided to add/correct/customize other elements that we thought were important.

Why you should not play ULTRA

If you need a meme game, you shouldn't play ULTRA.

The reason you shouldn’t play ULTRA is because you want to conquer the world [insert an unimportant minor nation].

If you want to get more historical experience without changing the whole game, you should play ULTRA.

If you want a multiplayer game that blends history and realism, you should play ULTRA.

If you want to feel the power of the great powers during World War II, you should play ULTRA.

Compatibility.

The game is not compatible with Iron Man.

Not compatible with modes that change checksum. If you want to integrate your favorite mod, please request it (and the fashion author).

All current DLCs (TFV, DOD, WTT, MTG, LaR, NSB) are required for full gameplay. We can't promise any possible problems if you play without the DLC you need.

An alternate focus tree of the story is also supported, but is in development and testing slower than the story path.

Only the English version is supported at this time.

The main feature - rebalancing the industry

The main purpose of our work was to "fix" the industrial balance of the game:

In vanilla, industry is balanced around "playability" rather than history; for the HOI4 development team, all non-core countries must be "playable," the Axis powers must have a chance of "winning," and world dominance must be a possible achievement. ...

We disagree with this view and prefer to play in the historical context of the relative strength of countries.

That is why we have fashioned research on World War II-era industry. Key sources include Adam Ace's The Price of Destruction and Paul Kennedy's The Rise and Fall of the Great Powers.

From the latter was taken the concept of "military potential" of each country in 1936 and translated into the industry in play (civil, military and dock). To put it in perspective, the seven great powers account for more than 90% of the world’s military industrial complex, with the difference between the last great power (Italy) and the first (the United States) accounting for more than a tenth of a percent.

For better redistribution, we equated each vanilla IP with the other two MIs.

These are the rate of industrial growth (which, with a significant decline in the rate of industrial growth, in 1936 was less than 10% per year) and the system of resources. Coal, iron, and bauxite were added to avoid resource-heavy miners from becoming too entrenched, and global resources became cheap (depending on the resource), forcing majors to abandon half of their industry.

Other features.

We tried to make the game as close to vanilla as possible, so much of the work here is balancing for more realistic gameplay. Below is a list of features that we have added or modified

Division Designer (maximum support 10 + maximum line 20, battle width changed from base width 80 to 192)

Naval Rework MOD with integrated fleet repair

Tanks and planes have been transformed into national unikums for majors.

Integrate multiple QoL mods.
