About This Mod

ELF (short for Enable Loose Files) is a batch file for Windows which, when placed in the Fallout4/Data folder, reads all folders containing free files and updates the Fallout4.ini file accordingly so that these files can be loaded in the game. Essentially, this is a reduction of what mod authors already force you to do manually when installing mods (namely, edit the sResourceDataDirsFinal line to include new free file folders added by mod). Instead of editing Fallout4.ini manually every time a new mod is added, now you can just run ELF and it will update your Fallout4.ini for you!

Why do we need this?

Fallout 4 does not load data from folders contained in Fallout4/ Data by default, so editing the Fallout4.ini file to include these folders becomes necessary if you want to see these changes in the game. In essence, this mod helps solve a problem similar to the one that Archive Invalidation Invalidated solved for Fallout 3.

Instructions

NOTE: ELF will not work with operating systems other than Windows (such as Linux or Mac OS)!

Instructions for Nexus mod manager:

Click the Mod Manager Download option to download and install ELF, then navigate to the Fallout 4/Data folder. There you should see a file called ELF.cmd. Double-click on it and a small command prompt window will appear to tell you that ELF has updated your Fallout4.ini file.

Manual installation instructions:

Download ELF manually, go to the Fallout 4/Data folder and copy the ELF.cmd file there. After that, just double-click on it and it will start.
