About This Mod

A solution that allows mages to use their staff for both close-range and long-range attacks without having to change weapons or carry only one or the other.


Arcane Staff is the simplest solution to the warrior problem I have found.

There are two more modes that are trying to solve similar problems (skip this part if you don't care):

1) Staff from Yanken - Basic melee attack: http://www.dragonagenexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=2733. This converts all long-range staff attacks into melee attacks for all mages.


2) Change of animations of the champion staff from gambit51: http://www.dragonagenexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=2725). This creates a sword modeled as a staff - that is, at close range it attacks as a two-handed sword or longsword, but for long range attacks you need to change your weapon to a vanilla staff.

My Approach: Add a new melee attack skill to the Arcane spell tree, which is followed by a melee staff attack when activated. When the caster is within range of a melee attack, subsequent attacks will be melee attacks. This allows the wizard to continue using long-range attacks by default.


The following changes have been made to make Arcane Warrior easier to use.


1. a new melee skill button (freely activated in the Arcane skill tree) has been created that performs a rotating melee attack.


2. Replaced the Fool's Staff attack (4th rank attack), which fires when spinning from behind. It's like rotating a bow in a circle before releasing an arrow. For my Hawke, it was too flashy and stupid.


3. 3. Melee attack damage is slightly adjusted because in vanilla, melee attack damage was slightly lower than long-range staff attack damage.


4. 4. The ability to kill and use two-handed weapons has been adjusted so that they can be used with any weapon (not just the warrior's weapon). These abilities must be added to the console, but they will be available on the staff.

Personally, I recommend taking only the Pommel skill and the Mighty Blow skill (especially in Nightmare mode).

I just started playing with this fashion and so far everything is fine. I like that I can go into battle and hit the mob with a cone of cold before my party gets in my way. I hope you enjoy the game! Feedback and suggestions are welcome. Approval would be great, too.



Information for Modelers

anim_combatMighty64.gda was added to change the default return animation for Mighty Blow (and Whirlwind) to a fifth staff attack (which seems more powerful). It does not change the normal Mighty Blow sword animation.
