Difficulty setting

Difficulty Levels
- Easy. All costs are reduced by half. Support reduced by 25%. ₡200,000 at the start. Increased demand. It's easier to raise the level. Less pollution. Steeper roads are allowed.
- Normal. Almost like vanilla.
- Advanced. Close to Hard Mod, which comes complete with the game.
- Hard. Even more difficult.
- Expert. Recommended for experienced players.
- Challenge. Very precise city planning is required.
- Impossible. It's close to the limit of playability. (A screenshot has been added to show that the Impossible difficulty is playable.)
- Castomaceae. Many customizable options.
The initial money and the loan amount increase at high complexity.
Special difficulty levels
These special levels are designed for fun and experimentation.
- Free. Construction is free. Content is halved. Demand is very high. Land values and service estimates are not required to raise the level of buildings. No soil pollution and no noise from electricity, water and debris. The original money is zero.
- 500,000 ₡ at the start. Normal difficulty with ₡500,000 at start.
- Demand 100%. Demand is always 100%. All other settings are normal.
- Free public transport. Normal complexity. Zero costs and maintenance in public transport.
- Low town. Very high requirements for raising the level of buildings. All other settings are normal.
- Hard and fast. Impossible complexity at zero cost of construction. Still difficult, but much less waiting time. You can build anything even when the balance is negative. The original money is zero.
Complexity settings are available in the Main menu.
Start Menu > Mode Settings > Mode Settings > Difficulty Settings
Difficulty settings can be changed during the game, but the cost values displayed on the dashboards will not be updated until the game is restarted. It is better to go to the Main Menu, change the difficulty settings, and reload the game.
Custom Settings
The following is a list of configurable options. When you change the difficulty setting, the difficulty is automatically set to Custom. Custom values are saved. Switching from a named complexity level to a user level restores all previously set user values.
- Cost
Separate for office buildings, public transport, roads and everything else (park, squares, paths, trees and monuments).
Strictly speaking, the cost of construction is not critical. Increasing it even 100 times will not make the game unplayable. You just have to wait a long time before you build something. Content is what matters.
In general, roads are the most expensive at higher levels of difficulty, and more careful planning of their routes and types of roads is needed. On the other hand, public transport has not changed much. You don't have to limit yourself to building a good public transport network.
- Compensation and demand multiplier.
Calculated using the following formula: New_Demand=(Original_Demand+Offset)*Multiplier
In the most general sense, a change in the displacement will change the growth conditions of the city (to grow or not to grow). Changing the multiplier will change the growth rate of the city (rapid growth or slow growth).
- Radius
land pollution and noise: A larger radius for high complexity. Can be set from 0 (no pollution) to x5 in user settings. Only electricity, water and garbage collection facilities are affected.
- Cost
the move ranges from 0 (free move) to 80% of the construction cost depending on the complexity. In the vanilla version, you can relocate the building at 20% of its cost.
- Maximum slope for roads, railways and subways
Light: 30%, normal: 25%, expert: 19%, impossible: 15%. Can be set from 5% (very soft) to 100% (45 deg.) in user settings. Note that setting the slope limit below 15% will make road and track construction more difficult (especially tunnel entrances). Using Fine Road Heights fashion can help.
- Multiplier
the cost of the area Expansion is quite expensive at high difficulty levels.
- Percentage
rewards The amount of money you receive when you reach the checkpoint. At higher difficulty levels, no reward is given.
- Starting amount
Depending on the card, it is sometimes impossible to build the minimum necessary structures when you start a new game with a standard amount of money on one of the highest difficulties. Therefore, the starting money increases slightly at the Challenge and Impossible difficulty levels. You can set between 0 and ₡500,000 in your user settings.
- Loans
The loan amount is increased for higher difficulties. You can set from x0.25 to x10 in the user settings. The duration of the loan changes according to the formula (1+x)/2, where x is the multiplier of the loan amount.
About the formula. If you increase the amount of the loan without changing the term of the loan, the weekly payment will be too high. On the other hand, if you extend the term of the loan by the same rate as the loan amount, the term will be too long. So I decided to implement the middle way. For example, if you increase the loan amount 3 times, the loan term will be increased by (3+1)/2=2 times.
- Population needed to unlock stages
The higher the difficulty, the later the game items are unlocked. You can set this to 0 to unlock everything from the beginning.
- Land value requirements to improve residential and commercial buildings
Higher requirements at higher levels of complexity. The demands on education and welfare have not changed.
- Requirements for service points to improve the level of industrial and office buildings
High requirements at high levels of complexity. Education requirements have not changed.
Additional Features
- Unlock by buying all 25 tiles of the area when the last milestone is reached.
- Unlock the "Base Road Created" stage from the beginning. (This is a very minor thing that eliminates the need to build a section of a two-lane road before building something else.)
- 100% refund from newly built roads and facilities. (Treat this as a "cancel" feature.)
- Steam achievements are available for all difficulty levels except Easy and Free. (Yes, you can. You can get achievements with this fashion.)
