About This Mod

The R32 is a model New York City Subway car built by Budd for the IND/BMT B division in 1964-1965. A total of 600 R32 wagons were built, numbered 3350-3949, although some wagons were renumbered; the R32 contract was divided into two subcontracts of 300 wagons each: R32 (wagons 3350-3649) and R32A (wagons 3650-3949), the former financed from the city budget and the latter from revenues. The first was paid for by bonds. The R32 was the first production stainless steel car built for the New York City Subway.


The longest-lived R32 ran for about 58 years, which is by far the longest service life for express traffic in New York; they were the last vehicles built for the New York City Transit Authority before its merger with the Metropolitan Transit Authority in 1968; and the R32 significantly exceeded its stated service life of 35 years. Survival. It is the oldest vehicle since the Redbird was written off, and the oldest vehicle in any North American metro system.
