About This Mod
Omaha, commonly known as Omaha Beach, is located on 1st Street. It was the code name for Sector 6/6 5 of the 1944 Allied invasion of German-occupied France during the Normandy landings of World War II. Omaha refers to an 8-kilometer (5-mile) stretch of the French coast of Normandy, located east of Saint-Tonolin-de-Perth west of Vierville-sur-Mer, on the right bank of the mouth of the d'Euve River, overlooking the English Channel. The landing was necessary to link the British landings east of Gold with the American landings west of Utah, and to ensure a continuous landing on the Normandy coast in the Gulf of Seine. The U.S. Army was responsible for the occupation of Omaha, and shipping, minesweepers, and naval artillery were provided by the U.S. Navy and Coast Guard, mainly with the British, Canadian, and Free French fleets.
