Installation

Windows

Via Thunderstore.

Go to the Thunderstore page and click "Download manually".

Unzip the downloaded .zip file (for example, right-click and choose Extract All).

Run Gale_X.X.X.X_x64_en-US.msi in the checked out folder.

Via Github.

Go to Versions.

Download Gale_X.X.X.X_x64_en-US.msi for the version you want (latest version recommended).

Run the downloaded file.

You may see a warning [Windows protects your computer]. In this case, click the More Info button, and then click Run anyway.

[Tip] If you're not sure if this app is safe, we recommend that you check it out with VirusTotal. It is also worth noting that the project is fully open, and any developer can view the code and easily find malware.

First, verify that all Tauri prerequisites are met.

Also, make sure git and tauri CLI are installed (or install them using cargo install tauri-cli).

After the repository is cloned, start the development server by running the following command

installing npm

cargo tauri giant

To compile a Gale, issue the: npm install cargo tauri dev command

cargo tauri construction

After some time, the .msi and .exe installers will appear in the src-tauri/target/release/bundle folder.

Install the necessary tools and build chain.

[The example uses a Debian-based package manager. Use a system-specific package manager, such as Yum or Pacman, instead.

You will need the following packages to build Gale on Linux

sudo apt update

NVM.

If you do not have the latest node installed, follow the instructions here to install nvm.

To install a Gale-enabled version of the host

nvm install 20

Then use the following command to install the host version in the current terminal

use nvm 20

The host version must be installed before using the NPM commands described later in this guide.

Install Tauri CLI.

cargo install tauri-cli

This will take some time, especially if you've never compiled anything with Rust.

Start the development server.

Use nvm 20

cargo tauri giant

Build a Gale.

After some time, a package (.deb on debian-based systems) will be released in the src-tauri/target/release/bundle directory, which is executable and installable.
