HxD is a tool to edit your character's face, skin tone or wand

Here are a few things to watch out for:

- The author focuses on the allocation for changing values instead of the inverse interval, because this is a very common user error.

- Changing your character's appearance in this way will affect how your character looks anywhere your face is visible, including the main menu and the equipment preview menu. However, don't be surprised if the first time you load the game, you see that your character's face does not change in the main menu. Once you have downloaded and saved, it will be updated to the new face you have chosen.

- Sometimes just continuing/downloading after making your first-time edits may not immediately display your edits, even though you have already applied the changes made to HxD. If this is the case, go to Quick Move mode to force the game engine to reload the character/rod model. The above note will then apply.

- Also, you don't need to copy the save files as a backup. It is discovered that HxD already does this for you, creating a copy of your save file when you edit it with HxD, and saving it as a .bak file. So if something goes wrong, just delete the modified file and rename the backup file by removing the .bak extension. Therefore, if you are restoring a file backup using HxD, you should rename the automatically saved file from "HL-00-00.sav.bak" to "HL-00-00.sav".

1. Download the tool and install it.

2. Install the tool in any place convenient for you. This does not affect the operation of the tool, at least in my experience.

3. Launch the tool and navigate to the savefile folder. This is typically Appdata/Local/HogwartsLegacy/Saved/SaveGames/"12345".

4. "12345" is your user ID, so replace it in the above step when you look for the save folder.

5. In the "12345" folder, locate your last save file. If you play with only one save, your last saved file must be "HL-00-00.sav". Otherwise, make sure you have sorted the file by "Date Modified" and selected the most recent save.

6. When you open the file in HxD, use Ctrl+F to use the "find" function or, alternatively, place the cursor on 'Search' -> 'find'.

7. Find the keyword "Headstyle" if you change your face, and "Skincolor" if you change your skin color.

8. Once the tool finds the desired option, you can see your current face/skin color. Example: "Player0HEADSTYLEFaceFemale002!".

9. Highlight 2 and change to your preferred number. If your preferred number is a double digit number, select zero in front, separate it, and change it to 1. Don't add an extra number anywhere. Example: "Player0HEADSTYLEFaceFemale014!".

10. DO NOT FORGET TO HIGHLIGHT AND CHANGE THE NUMBER. THIS IS IMPORTANT. DON'T USE THE REVERSE SPACE. Spacing back will ruin your save. Please don't do that. If you make a mistake and enter a backspace, cancel and start over. If you continue to save changes with a space, I am not responsible for the damaged save.

11. If you are finished, click Save and exit the tool. You can save in the menu 'File' -> 'Save'. Alternatively, press Ctrl+S.

The steps will be slightly different for the style and type of wand, because there will be more values to adjust. Also keep in mind that unlike Face and Skintone, the style and type of the wand starts at 0, not 1. This will be more clear from the steps and if you refer to fashion images. The steps that assume you have already installed the tool are as follows:

1. Launch the tool and navigate to the save files folder. This is typically Appdata/Local/HogwartsLegacy/Saved/SaveGames/"12345".

3.In the "12345" folder, locate your last save file. If you, like me, play with only one save, your last saved file must be "HL-00-00.sav". Otherwise, make sure you have sorted the file by "Date Modified" and selected the most recent save.

4. When you open the file in HxD, use Ctrl+F to use the "find" function or move the cursor over 'Search' -> 'Find'.

5. Make sure that Search Direction is set to All before entering a keyword. Find the keyword "playerwandbaset0" and press 'Search All'.

6. If step 5 is executed correctly, the search will result in 4 results. Double-click each entry to go to that row and edit T00X_M0X. X is the value of what you want to change.

7. Highlight the X in your entry and change it to the number you want. Don't add an extra number anywhere. Example: "PlayerWandBaseT001_M00" -> "PlayerWandBaseT004_M02".

8. DO NOT FORGET TO HIGHLIGHT AND CHANGE THE NUMBER. THIS IS IMPORTANT. DON'T USE THE REVERSE SPACE. Spacing back will ruin your save. Please don't do that. If you make a mistake and enter a backspace, cancel and start over. If you continue to save changes with a space, I am not responsible for the damaged save.

9. Use the "find" function again, as in steps 4 and 5, but this time find the keyword "playerwandstylet0" and press 'Search All'.

10. If step 9 is executed correctly, you will see that the search gave you 2 results. Double-click each entry to go to that row and edit T00X_M0X. X is the value of what you want to change. NOTE: IN THESE 2 RECORDS, AFTER T00X_M0X, THERE WILL BE H0YY_M0Y (Y is the value of your current wand style). DON'T TOUCH THEM. [ADDITIONAL NOTE: It looks like there could potentially be more than 2 matches in step 9. If you get more than 2 matches, don't panic. Just edit all the entries instead].

11. Select X in your entry and change it to the desired number. Don't add an extra number anywhere. Example: "PlayerWandStyleT001_M00_H012_M02" -> "PlayerWandStyleT004_M02_H012_M02".

12. DO NOT FORGET TO HIGHLIGHT AND CHANGE THE NUMBER. THIS IS IMPORTANT. DON'T USE BACKSPACE. Spacing back will ruin your save. Please don't do that. If you make a mistake and enter a backspace, cancel and start over. If you continue to save changes with a space, I am not responsible for the damaged save.

13. If you are finished, click Save and exit the tool. You can save in the menu 'File' -> 'Save'. Alternatively, press Ctrl+S.
