Frostpunk balance mod
About This Mod
Improve the balance of the game by offering different trade-offs and solutions. Make sure that none of the options are superior to the others in any situation.
This is achieved by increasing the effectiveness of less effective options and reducing too much.
The second goal is to balance the difficulty of medium and late games with the difficulty of early. Frostpunk is very complex in its early stages, but it gradually becomes lighter, and the endgame is often disappointing.
Before installing the patch, first go back to the original 1.6.2 files. Patches do not work with fixed files from previous versions of the mod.
To verify that the source files are correct, check the md5sum 4 files that will be fixed and compare with this:
ef09678b960f35da2424f28180294a3f common.dat
20cd75787f8289202cd9e3270241fb25 common.idx
0ec430a43a338f166d54478b00d643ed templates.dat
0443266e1ec3f62e820841211407efe7 templates.idx
The files are in VCDIFF patch format and must be patched using an external program. VCDIFF is an open standard for correcting differences in files, programs such as xdelta3, which is an open source tool, is also available in many Linux repositories, and assemblies for Windows can be downloaded from their website. I did my best to keep the patches as small as possible.
You need to patch 4 files. Please make a backup of the original files first. In steam, the default directory where the files are located should be located in:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Frostpunk
Files for patch, please make a backup of them:
templates.idx
templates.dat
common.idx
common.dat
Place the VCDIFF files from the downloaded mod in the same directory as the 4 source files.
If you are using xdelta3, you can use the following commands at the command line to patch, and then replace the source files with the newly created ones. There may also be other programs that provide a graphical interface for doing this.
xdelta3 -d -D -s templates.idx templates.idx-balance-mod.vcdiff templates-new.idx
xdelta3 -d -D -s templates.dat templates.dat-balance-mod.vcdiff templates-new.dat
xdelta3 -d -D -s common.idx common.idx-balance-mod.vcdiff common-new.idx
xdelta3 -d -D -s common.dat common.dat-balance-mod.vcdiff common-new.dat
Correction commands will create 4 new files. You will need to replace the four original files with new files, renaming them and placing them in the game directory.
One of the players advised this online patcher who works well. I haven't used it personally, but those who have patch issues can try it.
