About This Mod

You can look through binoculars and see something in the distance. That's right.

Such binoculars are often called "picture in picture".

What is True Scopes?

True Scopes is the newest (as of 2023) mod, using the latest and best tools from the NV modding community to create simple solutions to simple problems.

Looking straight into the sights and getting rid of the big border blocking the screen is a simple problem. So it's a mod, not necessarily a change of core gameplay.

Mod allows you to enlarge what you are looking at. It's really magnified, no tricks with distortion or camera scaling.

Before you ask about compatibility, this mod comes with an easy-to-use editor mode that doesn't change the mesh or texture, and anyone who has a keyboard, mouse and a few minutes of time can easily add new compatibility.

Editing system

The same one I use to complete and set the sights.

To access it, enable debug mode in INI and enter "debug mode" in the console.

Then, after arming and removing the weapon to the holster, with a first-person view and without aiming, press the settings key (default: ;). The interface opens. The buttons at the top not only have (in most cases) stylish icons, but also display a description of their use when hovering.

In this mode, weapons can be pointed down to better see how to aim.

Click the arrows next to each value and experiment to see how it works.

Adjusting the rotation has proved unnecessary in all cases that I tested, so I do nothing with it at the moment. If you need it for any reason, let me know.

You can add a modifier to the magnification by holding down CTRL, Shift, Alt, or a combination of all three.

If you don't, your changes will be lost. At least they are easy to recreate, especially if you know roughly what you want to do.

Under 'config/True Scopes/CustomConfigs' you will find the file 'CustomConfig'. It is recorded every time you "save" in editor mode. We recommend that you give it a unique name if you want to share it on Nexus, for example.

In addition, this file was intentionally removed from the download to prevent it from being overwritten by the mod updates.

Configuration files are downloaded from z-a in order of priority. The one at the bottom (z) is the one whose values will be used; note that a single configuration file may contain values for many different weapons, even if other configurations have priority.

For example, .esp. You cannot change a rule piecemeal, such as adding a night vision sight to a weapon in one file and then changing its position in another file. It won't work.

Note that there is a strange error that I have not yet been able to track, but which seems to have occurred during a large pre-release rework, when the values return to their original values when you enter edit mode.

It seems that this can be avoided by saving several times, but be careful if you go back to editing weapons again. This only happens in very rare exceptions and in most cases is completely normal.

In addition, some weapons are incompatible with it, and mod may not be suitable. We don't know why, but it's probably because the .nif file is too confusing. Additional compatibility:

If you need more advanced settings than the built-in editing system, you can edit the targeting file directly. Most basic settings can be controlled using the editing system, but changes to the sights and XML files used by the weapon are not yet supported.

config/True Scopes/CustomConfigs.

The configuration file consists of a multidimensional array, where each row is a record for a weapon and all the "tabs" in that row are separate values.

A description file is located in the 'config' folder. It will be updated for the next release and will include additional information.

Known Issues

There's a fashion problem.

Vignette is not working properly yet. It is disabled by default, but can be enabled if necessary.

The sight sometimes "hangs" a little when using spam. It is not yet known why this is happening.

The investigation has not yet taken place.

The water looks rather strange, and sometimes the sky. This is the problem of the camera processing function itself, and I can't fix it.

Incompatibility.

New Vegas Reloaded:

First-person shadows of the weapon cover the scope. In addition, the shadow is not visible through the sight.

Settings for multi-sampling transparency in the game launcher.

Software incompatibility. Because of this, the grass and other objects look through the scope rather creepy.

ISControl.

Not fully confirmed, and I don't know exactly what the problem is, Heath didn't mention anything, so hopefully it's not a problem for everyone.
