Brief description.

=================

This mode provides an invisible flashlight without hands.

History

=======

1.0, November 3, 2010 - First release.

Long description.

Available at: ==================

A flashlight shines a beam of light along your line of sight. It is effective at a maximum distance of 1,000 units (compared to an average character height of about 125 units). The beam is magically emitted from the player's face, so in this sense it is not a real flashlight. This lantern has nothing to do with Pip Boy light; the Pip Boy light works normally.

A flashlight is a piece of clothing. The flashlight turns on when it is put on and turns off when it is taken off. It is orange by default, but may appear white or yellow in some places. You can change the flashlight color by opening the Pip-boy and navigating to Items > Clothing > < Flashlight Options >.

There is one big problem with this mode. The ground outside (not covered in rubble or concrete) seems to reflect only one or two lanterns at a time. Instead, I did some scripting to choose a good location for the lighting.

- FlashlightNV-LOS.esp uses the line-of-sight feature to select good lighting spots, but it can reduce the frame rate in the game if the computer is not very good.

- FlashlightNV-Performance.esp uses trigonometry to find a good place for lighting. It works well on flat areas, but much worse if you look a little up or down the slope.

The Fallout 3 version of the lantern can be found here: http://fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php.id=15003.

Say hello to Pelinor:

This mod is a version of Pelinor's directional lantern (download here: http://fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php.id=9084) Thanks to Pelinor for allowing us to improve it.

Known issues.

============

Use of light slows down the frame rate. If the game is running very slowly, you might want to set up a mod to improve performance.

Rays of light can "flicker" when moving. This is visible when moving forward or backward towards the wall. We decided to leave this as a compromise between the smoothness of the light, the effective length of the flashlight beam and the effect on the computer.

There is only one light present error: Some textures seem to reflect light from only one light source. If you turn on the flashlight, these textures may not be illuminated by other lights in the area. These textures include, but are not limited to:

- Outer ground not covered with rubble, concrete or stone,

- Wrinkled walls and window edges.

If you know how to solve this problem, please let us know.
