About This Mod

This mod is a resource designed to help naming NPCs and settlers. You can choose from the 2500 most common names of the nuclear era and give them to NPC using console commands without any additional modding.

Currently, there is only one easy way to do this - the "setactorfullname" console command. However, this requires that the name is already in the game in the form of a MESG (or simply a message) in which it is displayed, rather than allowing you to choose it yourself. If you wanted to give a settler a name, you either had to purchase a mod that would give the settler a generic name, or create a mod with MESG inside to use it. It is not very difficult, but it requires more effort than it should. This mod is a ready list of names from which you have to choose. 2,500 names to choose from, hopefully enough for you to name every "settler" in the wasteland. There are no fancy or unique names in this fashion; the names were collected from the most common names of 1950-1959 based on the social security records recognized by Codsworth of names and some additional ones I added to align the list. Don't worry, these are still normal names (mostly), things haven't changed that much since. If you are not satisfied with the list of names, let me direct you to this gentleman and his guide on creating your own names that can be used to rename NPCs. He made it similar to this mod, which is a little easier to use, but is still limited to titleys.

Instructions

1. Download and activate with Nexus Mod Manager or any other mod manager. More information here.

2. Choose the name you want and find it FormID in the list at the bottom of this page, in the FormID List file attached to the mod, or in the game by typing "help *name* 4" on the console to display a list of all in-game resources using that name.

Note that XX at the beginning of FormID depends on the "Order of loading" of the file SettlerNamingResource.esp, notice it in the Nexus mod manager and replace XX with it for any name.

3. Before continuing, be aware that any changes are irreversible, and even deleting the mod will not return the name. Save the game before any error attempts.

4. Once you have FormID, open the console and click on the NPC you want to rename.

5. Enter the command "setactorfullname *FormID*" in the console without quotes.

6. Exit the console and look to the side and then again to the NPC. If everything was done correctly, it should get the name you chose.

Note that you can click on the object instead (even some lights count) or on yourself, so double check to see if the rename has occurred.

It is also impossible to rename NPCs that the game itself has renamed, such as Providers and Dogmeat, however you can rename them before the game does so and they will persist (correct me if I am mistaken, I have not checked, but based on what I heard).

If you wish, you can delete the mod at any time and your NPC names will remain forever. This is one reason why it is important to be careful when renaming an NPC, since renaming yourself, an NPC such as a companion with predefined names, or someone else is not so easy to undo without rebooting from an old save. Caution is recommended.

There should be no problems with other mods, and this mod should not create any problems. All MESG recordings are unique and do not cancel anything, and the mod itself was created with the help of FO4Edit, which has proven itself to be safe for the modder and the user of fashion. The only problem you can encounter when using this mode is the incorrect use of names through the console, but there is nothing I can do about erroneous clicks and bad saves.

Making this fashion was a hell of a tedious thing, so I hope at least one person will benefit from it. Don't ask why the editors' IDs listed with the names are strangely sorted, because I'll tell you... enjoy!
