About This Mod

This mod is designed to help soften the "bullet sponge" of the latest RPG from Bethsoft. When Bethsoft (and especially Obsidian) tend to rely on HP's heavy inflation to present a problem, many of us believe that it interferes with pleasure, tension, and immersion. This doubles when one considers that Fallout is not an outright fantasy setting where people become ridiculously tempered in trials like Robert E. Howard.

This mod began as an attempt to correct some of these problems by flattening and increasing the weapon's power curve based on the idea that any bullet that finds its target will deal more or less the same (increased) damage to the target, no matter how "experienced" the shooter. Hence (mostly) logically evolved the idea of removing a significant number of effects that felt like magic spells in Skyrim rather than in a (slightly) more down-to-earth Fallout. Much has been learned from Fallout 1, Fallout 2, and Fallout New Vegas, and a host of features have been added that have helped bring back the feel of these much-heralded games - from ballistic physics to more narcotic effects.

What it does (for now)

(Video OBOK Lite/1.35, with sincere thanks to JimmyGatz!)

What's New in OBOK 2: Consumables (V2C) and Above

- Removed artificial magazine bonuses. Educational journals still provide skills, but collectibles offer significant resale value.

- Added physics of bullets, including an increase in the range and flight path, and the range and muzzle velocity, if possible, correspond to their real counterparts.

- Consumables (food, drugs, stelsa, beverages), when used, will return the appropriate scrap depending on their containers. Drinks are produced by bottles, packaged food - plastic, injectors - glass, steel, etc.

- Magical effects are removed from most products. Food exists mainly to satisfy hunger and to be traded.

- Drugs and the strongest drinks give (mostly) subtle visual effects, tested with and without ENB and ENBoost. The effects will look stronger with ENB than without it.

- The paints on the power armor no longer give magical additions to the stats, they just look good.

- Replaced many snippets of the taste text "Get X% Bonus" with a more exciting (or sarcastic) taste text in the spirit of Fallout 2.

What is included in OBOK 2: First release (V2) and above**

- Removed a significant amount of auto-cancelation/recentation recoil, which is used in Fallout 4 to make the game with weapons more lively.

- Removed almost all laser impact and to balance this change reduced laser damage by a very small amount.

- Removed the link between player level and most enemy level. The world exists without you, and some areas will be fantastically dangerous for low-level characters. It also makes the playthrough really useful.

- Removed all game perks, food, and chemicals that increase ranged weapon damage. A weapon deals the same damage regardless of who fires it.

- Increased the strength of vertibeards and vehicles, as well as the wear rate of armor, to counter a significant increase in damage. [Vertiberds/machines.

- Reduced the number of more dangerous enemies by an average of 25-30% to reduce the comical number of enemies that can actually crush any settlement or city if they want. With this fashion, the game is still much more complicated than with vanilla, especially at low levels.

- Removed the level requirements for all major perks and improved a handful of more useless to reduce the number of meaningless perks.

"Sodium, alcohol and drugs began to act as... soda, alcohol, and drugs, not magic potions. Soda and light alcoholic beverages now quench thirst well, and most consumables have more (though not entirely) standardized effects that last much longer. Drugs have long highs, followed by unpleasant lows. To this end, and to maintain the sense of Fallout, many drugs have been set up to behave like Fallout 2.

"Restoration of health with food has been eliminated.

- Addiction risks have been changed to be more in line with either the real-world analogs or what they were in Fallout 2.

- Limb regeneration during sleep is removed - you need medication or doctor. Stimulants are beneficial for the extremities, some psychoactive substances and stimulants are beneficial for the body and head.

What is included in OBOK 2 Lite Version (Obok Lite) and above**

- All DLC support is enabled (and required).

What is included in OBOK 1.35 and above ** ***

- Reduced Bethesda HP inflammation in strong enemies, so 50th-level characters don't absorb bullets like a lead foundry. This applies to both the player and the NPC.

- Increased damage dealt by both player and NPC from 2.6 to 4 depending on the version.

- Removed level requirements for all player's perks.

* See ReadMe for details.

** V2 Initial Release and previous versions do not add or use any scripts.

*** V1.35 works only with vanilla Fallout 4 and is no longer supported.

Compatibility

- OBOK 1.35 only works with Fallout 4 Vanilla and is no longer supported.

- This mod can be incompatible with most mods that change the perch tree in a significant way, as it overwrites most perk records.

- OBOK 2 Lite and later versions support and require all DLC.

- If you start a new game with V2+ (ignoring lite), it is recommended to start a new (or relatively new) game, as some perk levels have been removed in bulk. This does not guarantee problems, but can cause some oddities in the user interface of the Perks.

- This modification changes the list of levels for several types of NPC, but does not change the records for all actors except the base Vertibird, so it will work with everything that does not depend on changing the default list of levels.

- This mod changes Movable Static records for cars.

"This mod overwrites records for all sodas, alcohol and drugs.

"This mod overwrites the ordnance data for most munitions.

- This mod overwrites a large number of records about food and drinks, as well as stealth fights.

- This mod overwrites all Fallout 4 ink data by default.

- Mod adds one new short script, which does not run constantly and does not require Script Extender.
