Steps to prevent Horizon from breaking or causing problems:

1. Follow the download order instructions in the article. The following is an example of the boot order.

2. Do not install mods that duplicate Horizon. Sort mods will not work and will break Horizon. Horizon has its own sorting, and the entire sorting is customized specifically for hundreds of item changes compared to vanilla. Horizon comes with custom DEF_UI modifications and configs to use this sort with icons. Horizon has many features, so first find out if you need other mods for gameplay.

3. Learn what your mods do before you install them! Fashions that change gameplay data similar to Horizon are likely to be either unnecessary or meaningless. You may not even need them. Blind installation of a bunch of gameplay mods together with Horizon can simply break your game, spoil your experience or be completely unnecessary.

4. Make sure Horizon is fully installed and running before going too far into the new playthrough of the game. You can make sure that it works by selecting SPECIAL stats at the beginning, as it will allow you to choose 29 points instead of 21 (more on this below). If you don't see any pop-up messages when you log out of the repository, your game is not configured properly for modding.

5. NEVER "clean" or edit Horizon files directly. They are specially configured in a certain way. Leave them alone! If you want to tweak the numbers, create your own ESP patch files that can be downloaded after Horizon.

6. NEVER merge Horizon ESP files into a new ESP file. This will ruin your saves. There is no reason to merge Horizon ESP files... never. Given ESL flags, there is no reason to merge any files at all these days.

Horizon players often patch Horizon to work with other mods. Please be aware that I have absolutely no control over these patches and they may not be updated for the latest version of Horizon, or even work properly.

OVERVIEW OF THE STEPS TO INSTALL HORIZON CORRECTLY:

• Mod Manager - Install a working Mod Manager (MO2 recommended).
• Upgrade Fallout 4 - make sure you're running the latest version of Fallout 4.
• Enable Modding - Ensure that Fallout 4 INI files are modified to enable modding (as shown above).
• Clean Start - the first start without installed mods (the base installation should be Horizon).
• Horizon - Install Horizon on your own (first) and read/select the options in the installer
• Difficulty Fallout - manually select a survival mode or other difficulty in the game (this is NOT automatic)
• Test - Test Horizon in the game. Check the pip fight, inventory, craft, etc.
• Add more mods - when Horizon looks fine, you can determine which mods to install with it.
• Download Order - You MUST sort the order of downloads correctly; if necessary, ask for help from other players.
• Re-test - Check out Horizon and your mods in the game.
• New game - Once you are 100% sure of the correct loading order, you can start a new game.

If you miss at least one of these steps, your game will likely not work properly. And if you don't test Horizon before installing other mods, you'll just put yourself at risk of having to restart a new game several times because something in the game has broken.

Mods like this can't be removed from an existing saved game. You can try to do it at your own risk. Otherwise, delete the mod and start a new game.
