Flying wings
About This Mod
Flying Wings Flying Wings Mod is a mod for Elden Ring, which consists of an invisible flying mount (Torrent) and adds SFX wings to the player's transfer animation, giving the impression that the player flies on the wings. Prerequisites Introduction to and use of ModEngine2 tools. Installation Download the latest version of fashion. Extract the mod folder from the downloaded file. Place the folders (action and chr) from the opened folder into the ModEngine2 mod folder (the default is ModEngine2mod). We tried to make the flight control as intuitive and simple as possible. For this, the mode offers five flight states: climb descent fast straight motion (horizontal flight) slow straight motion (horizontal flight) idle gravity is disabled in all five states. Call Torrent to release the wings; descend from Torrent to retract the wings; after calling Torrent, the idle flight state goes into the idle flight state. The following description is based on the Xbox controller: A - jump button; B - dash button; A - jump button; B - dash button; C - dash button; D - dash button. The left analog stick is used to control movement and direction. Lift Controls: In Fast/Slow Flat or Idle mode, press A once to start moving up. Press A or B again to return to the standby mode. Descent: In Fast/Slow Flat or Idle mode, press B once to start the descent. Press A or B again or press the floor to return to standby mode. Quick Flat At idle, move the left analog stick all the way down and hold it there. Release the stick to return to idle mode. Slow Flat: In idle mode, lightly press the left analog stick and hold it to keep idle. Release the stick to return to idle mode. Idle: Do not press anything except to climb or descend. Do not push or hold anything other than up or down. If you go up or down, press the appropriate button (as above) to return to the Idle state. As you can see, most transitions occur in the Idle state. However, as shown in the first demo (3:56-4:10), these transitions are very smooth, and the Idle state is not noticeable. Finally, the left analog stick is used to control the direction in a state of fast/slow movement in a straight and in a state of rise/fall. Note: This explanation may seem a bit confusing at first (especially due to the use of the term "state"). Known issue Once the lift has started, the A button works to stop the lift for the first 2 seconds, but not after that. However, the B button always stops the climb. Conversely, after starting the descent, the B button does not work for the first 2 seconds or so, but then it works. However, the A button always triggers to stop the descent. Proceeding from this, use different buttons: button A - for lifting, button B - for stopping the rise; button B - for lowering, button A - for stopping the descent; button B - for stopping the descent, button A - for stopping the descent. In SFX standby mode, the wing does not follow the player's model. To resolve this issue, you must edit the animation of the SFX itself. However, the first step in the animation editing workflow that I used was to export the necessary files (animations and skeletons) to the appropriate format using the DSAnimStudio tool. Unfortunately, since this tool was originally designed to animate characters rather than SFX animations, I couldn't get the files I needed. In October 2024, I contacted Meowmaritus, the developer of the tool, and he took the opportunity to discuss the issue on Discord. It turned out that other people had also requested this feature (for other SFX animations), but so far no movement has occurred. Unfortunately, it is not possible to fix broken SFX wings until there are no updates on this issue or an alternative workflow for editing animations is found. For now, try not to linger in the Idle state for too long. In the "Rise" state, the player's motion tween will stop spinning after the first cycle, and the player will rise in a fixed position. This also causes the same problem as the SFX wings in an Idle state described earlier, where the SFX wings do not follow the player's model. I consider this problem to be relatively more serious than the previous two. I'm working on it. This is a visual problem, not a functional one, and can be temporarily avoided by switching between states of ascent and rapid forward motion. No cruise SFXs were added when switching weapons while driving. If they were added, they would also appear when changing weapons when you are not driving, which is not ideal. At this point, the problem is being ignored until it is identified. The note is checked in version 1.16. If you use ModEngine2, which runs the game only offline, this mod will not hurt you. The angle of ascent and descent relative to the ground is the same, approximately 18.4 degrees. The speed when climbing, descending, and rapidly moving in a straight line is the same, about 2.4 times the linear speed. The term "velocity" here refers to the sum of the vertical and horizontal components vector. This high speed can make precise movements difficult in a confined space. In such cases, a slow line may be used. Flying damage is not effective, but landing from a high altitude can kill you. The player's attack animation while riding has not been changed yet because I did not pay much attention to it, and attacking in flight is not very convenient and practical. However, more than 100 riding animations were modified, including the use of items. However, some animations of object usage are still missing. It is strongly recommended to use visual field mode (FOV) like this with this mode for better perception. Read more This mode should work well with other mods if there are no conflicting files. The action folder is rarely used by other mods, but may conflict with files in the chr folder. If you can handle these issues, add the appropriate anibnd.dcx HKX and TAE files to the Additional Files section. If you need to compress or decompress anibnd.dcx and TAE files, you can use tools such as WitchyBND. If you only want an invisible flying torrent without SFX wings or player control animation, save the c8000.anibnd.dcx file to the chr folder and delete the rest of the anibnd.dcx files. If you're interested, we've downloaded a Excel file with descriptions including torrents IDs and rider ride animations (excluding attacks) in the "Additional Files" section. If you are interested, we marked the corresponding line in the c0000.hks file as "NRL" and added a comment to the description. This file can be opened in any text editor, such as Notepad or Notepad++. Fashion journey Usually mods have no history, but for me this mod was really a journey from beginning to end. I've been dreaming of flying on the wings of Crucible Knights since the early days of the game. There were a few "flying" mods, but they were either not what I wanted or were paid. For the same reason, the main goal of 2024 was to start modding in February of the 3rd year, but interestingly, I didn’t even know where to start. After months of research, trial and error, we were finally able to create a nine-step plan to achieve that goal. But, frankly, at every step I was constantly reminded that this game is not for flights. Perhaps one of the main reasons for this, as you can see from this old video, is that you can fly right through the entire map from Rimgrave (location at the beginning of the game) to Forge of the Giants (location at the end of the game): turning off gravity while moving, making floods invisible and silencing them, making them invisible and silencing them. Disables fall damage and death from hamari fall (drop timer about 12 seconds) while driving. Create intuitive and easy-to-use display of flight control buttons. Create loop torrent animations for pitch and tilt angles. Replace the player's driving animations with the appropriate ones. Add SFX wings to the player's driving animation. Make Torrent the caller on all maps. Remove all Killboxes and deadly bombs from all maps. (Optional) Find a solution to start loading maps that are not loaded. It should be noted that these steps are not strictly followed, as they involve many round-trip adjustments. But I have followed precisely this common path. Each step is described in detail below.
Turn off gravity while you move and make Torrent transparent and quiet This step was relatively easy with DSAnimStudio and the WitchyBND tool; DSAnimStudio was used to identify changes needed and WitchyBND was used to convert TAE animation files to XML format and batch process them. Disabling Fall Damage and Death from Falling While Driving in Hamari This step was the first serious problem I faced. It took months because I didn’t even know where and what to change. Eventually, I realized I needed to change the HKS file, and thanks to EldenRingHKS I was able to get started. After countless attempts, I was able to almost complete this step by going through about 2,000 lines of scripts with very few comments. Designing an intuitive and simple display of control buttons for flight This step was also relatively simple. In the end, it was decided that the on/off design would be more intuitive and preferable than requiring the player to hold the button repeatedly for flight. Creating a cyclical Torrent animation at tilt and tilt angles This step was the second major challenge I faced. This time, however, it wasn’t so much that I didn’t know where to start or what to do, it was that I didn’t have the right tools. I eventually came across a video that demonstrated the animation editing process, and with that process, I was able to finally get started. Again, it took a lot of trial and error, but I was finally able to create an animation consisting of tilts and breaks, and successfully complete this step. Replacing the player's ride animation with the correct animation This step was also relatively simple thanks to DSAnimStudio and the WitchyBND tool, but it also required a design solution: Define the desired animation (HKX file) in DSAnimStudio; create an animation file in DSAnimStudio; create an animation file in WitchyBND; create an animation file in DSAnimStudio, use WitchyBND to get the animation files and replace them with the appropriate ones in batch mode. Add SFX wings to the modified player's ride animation as in Step 1. Make the torrent called on all maps This step is not finished yet and is not part of the mod, but I managed to find a way to realize that the maps opened in the Blacksmith tool are an msb. dcx file that can be converted to XML format in WitchyBND to make the necessary changes. However, the way to export these files in batch from Blacksmith has not yet been found. This means manually opening dozens of cards with the tool, which is a tedious and slow process. For the time being, this step will be postponed until a suitable solution is found. Removing death boxes and death cells from all cards Similar to step 7. Interestingly, there are so many of them on some maps that it looks like a minefield. Find a workaround for launching a download on maps that do not load This step is, in my opinion, optional, it is not yet complete or is not part of the mod Some maps, such as Stormveil Castle and Leyndell Capital, have very specific locations designed to download only at startup. This is probably due to the fact that these maps are huge single files, and although we have done some testing using the Blacksmith tool, we don't yet know which trigger mechanism loads the map. This step has been suspended for the time being until the right solution is found. We apologize if the explanation turned out to be a little long. We tried to be as short as possible without sacrificing too much detail. Bringing flight mechanics into a game that wasn’t meant to be, was not an easy process, and of course, to explain it, several articles need to be written.
IMPORTANT WARNING If you somehow caused a torrent in Farum Azur and are trying to fly to another map, or you have megalophobia again, it's okay. I warned you. (Also, none of the other cards will load correctly in this scenario, so you won’t be able to land on them.)
