Seven years ago, a boy, King Edward of England, overthrew the tyrannical regime of his mother, Princess Isabella of France, and his ambitious lover, Roger Mortimer, Earl of March, but now the young lion is facing an even more serious enemy. As the son of his second son, he witnessed the untimely death of three cousins in a short period of time, which led to chaos in Philip's kingdom.

The Plantagenets ruled Aquitaine for a long time, but Edward broke with tradition and refused to recognize the King of France as his feudal chief. To subdue his rebellious vassals, Philip announced the loss of the English fiefdoms.

In retaliation, Edward named Philip a usurper and declared himself the rightful heir to the throne of his grandfather, King Philip IV of France. There was no room for negotiation, and the winner had to be determined on the battlefield.
