About This Mod

It is the Juche Tower (officially the Intellectual Juche Tower), the 13th in the DPRK collection.


The building now functions as a memorial and will soon become a tourist attraction in Pyongyang, the capital of North Korea.


Juche Tower is located on the east bank of the Taedong River, directly opposite Kim Il-sung Square on the west bank. It was built to commemorate the 70th anniversary of President Kim Il-sung. Although it is officially claimed that Kim Il-sung's son and successor, Kim Jong-il, interviews with former senior North Korean officials refuted this claim.


The architectural style of the tower was inspired by the stone towers of pre-modern Korea. The 170-meter (560-foot) tall tower is the tallest 150-meter (490-foot) conical quadrangular granite tower, with 70 spans and 25,550 blocks (365 x 70: one for every day of President Kim Il-sung's life, not counting the extra days of leap year) lined with white stone. A 45-ton, backlit metal torch stands at the top 20 meters (66 feet) high.


The torch on top of the tower is always on fire. The tower can be accessed by elevator, and the observation deck, located directly under the torch tower, offers a panoramic view of Pyongyang.


At the base of the tower is a reception room, where a video explaining the ideological significance of the tower is sometimes shown. It is believed to have been modeled after the Washington Monument, which is less than one meter high. The Juche Tower is the second highest monument in the world after the San Jacinto Monument, 2.9 meters high.


Adjacent to the tower is a 30-meter (98 ft) sculpture in the classical Stalinist style, reminiscent of the Soviet statue of the Worker and Kolkhoz Woman, consisting of three idealized figures, each holding three tools: a hammer (worker), a sickle (peasant) and a brush ("working intelligentsia"). These three instruments are the symbols of the Workers' Party of Korea. There is also a group of six smaller statues, 10 meters (33 ft) tall, symbolizing other aspects of Juche ideas.


Part of the tower is a wall with 82 friendship shields from foreign supporters and Juche study groups.
