About This Mod

It's a little WIP mod that I made because I was worried about the fact that Geralt could just use alcohol to replenish all his potions, including oils and bombs.

Maude attempts to make alchemy more realistic, as in previous games, but without changing too much in vanilla behavior. I know that such fashion already exists, but I made it mostly for personal use. Maybe some things are not balanced properly yet, so I will be grateful for any feedback.


Features and changes:


Alchemical objects behave like any other object:

Once you use them, they disappear and you will have to create them again.

The amount of potions, bombs, oils, etc. is no longer limited, you can create as many items as you need.

Alchemy items can be stored in a hiding place and sold to merchants.


Lower costs:

Brewing doesn’t require as many ingredients as it used to.

Only renewable ingredients are needed.

Merchants sell far more herbs (not more types of herbs, but more of each).

To make a potion of mutagen, you still need to have the appropriate mutagens, but they are not consumed when making the potion. (Be sure to keep one mutagen at a time!)

In the manufacture of alchemical substances (Nigredo, Albedo, etc.) you now get 5 substances each time.

When you use alcohol to make substances, you get back an empty bottle.


Improved stats:

Potion action duration increased by 400%

Mutagen potion duration increased by 100%

100% increase in oil usage


Bases to be changed:

Basic items (potion spirits, oil fats, bomb powders) are no longer fixed for each recipe, but can be replaced with other items of the same type.

To do this, select an item and press X (R2 on the controller), which opens a dialog where you can select the item you want to use. You can also use the arrow keys (dpad_up/dpad_down on your controller) to scroll through items.


Manticore armor and katrice decoction:

The katrice decoction and the second-level bonus of Manticore armor previously increased the maximum amount of potions you can carry with you by 1. Now that their number is no longer limited, these opportunities are useless, and they both give a +50% chance of getting extra herbs. This perk is already in the game, but it was never used because there was no point in collecting too many herbs anyway.

This means that you will always get extra grass if you are wearing full Manticore armor and have the effect of a katrice concoction.


Laboratory in Corvo Bianco:

Like Manticora's armor and Cacatrice's decoction, the V/W Corvo Bianco laboratory had previously increased the maximum number of alchemy items by 1. Instead, it now opens the alchemy screen when used.

Making potions, bombs, or oils in a lab has become much more efficient, and now you get two, not one, items when you do something in a lab.


Other changes:

You can go directly to the recipe using C (R1 on the controller).

Items in the alchemy menu are now sorted primarily by quality (higher quality items are on top), rather than by name.

Mutagens now have their own category and are no longer in the category Alchemy Substances.

Before you weld something, a dialog box now appears in which you can select the number of items you want to make.


Installation:


Extract the files to the "mods" folder (create one if not) located in the main Witcher 3 game directory, or use the mod manager. Use ScriptMerger to resolve script issues.

(Optional: Use "betteralchemy_setup" in the game. It will replace all mutagen potions with the original mutagens and update the Manticore effect, which will otherwise only be updated when the armor is removed and donned. This command can only be used once).
