About This Mod

RRotR is a mod for Rimworld that allows you to build railways and highways on a world map.

To get started

It is a sequel to Lokoneco's "RimRoads" game, which has been Jackrell's successor to RimRoads since the Rimworld beta. This addition to the rim path adds a prefabricated rail to the prefab path option.

The rail part of this fashion is intended to be used in combination with such modes as SRTS trains and decorative railway poles.

Specifications

Create rail and road construction sites on a world map

Send caravans with skilled settlers, pack animals and resources to build railways and highways

Enjoy faster traffic than the base game on high-level roads, including all existing roads (which can be disabled in the settings

Railways and highways also eliminate some or all of the difficulties associated with biomes, hills, marshes, and seasonal travel

Paved roads, glitter roads and railway tunnels can be built in difficult terrain

Engage your allies to help build

Additional information

Build

With Rrotr, the caravan creates a construction site on a world map, and the player can choose the type of railway or highway and build it by left-clicking on adjacent tiles, and then right-clicking until the desired goal is achieved. If you make a mistake, click on the planned section of railway or highway, it and all subsequent sections will be deleted. Click on the construction site or right-click anywhere to complete the construction.

Please note that railway flyovers should not be used to cross multiple road and rail sections. This is not displayed correctly due to kernel and/or mode encoding limitations.

Work

You can use resources and settlers with building skills to build the current section (or stage). A progress bar will appear on the world map. When the stage is completed, the caravan will automatically proceed to the next stage.

Note: Rails and roads should be built in the order they are located on the world map.

If all settlers go to bed, rest at night, or a moving caravan interferes with their work. Similarly, some railways and highways require a certain percentage of the labor force to possess certain building skills. If a lower percentage is available, the amount of work will be reduced. If the settlers in the caravan do not possess the necessary skills, the job will be impossible. Prisoners do not work.

Cancel construction

You can delete a site by selecting a site and clicking the "Cancel Construction" button. It is not necessary for the presence of the caravan. Any resources you have spent so far will be lost.

Change in construction cost

The cost of construction consists of 2 components: the base cost, which depends on the road, and the modifier, which depends on the terrain. Railways and highways are more expensive at higher altitudes, starting at 1,000 meters. Hills and swamps also have an impact, as you can see from the website.

In the settings you can further reduce the total cost from 100% to 10%. The author of Lokoneko thinks that anything below 100% is probably completely unrealistic, but if you're playing in a small settlement or want to build a lot of roads and railways, turn off this setting so that ISR2G can adjust the cost parameters. There are too many errors in ISR2G, so I still turned it off. Customize to your taste.

Important Notes

It is not necessary to transport all resources at once in 1 caravan. There are enough fractions for a certain amount of work. But every material must be taken with you. For example, 10 minutes of asphalt road 1: 360 pieces of stone, 60 pieces of steel, 30 pieces of chemical fuel - this material is enough for 10 minutes of work 1 (180 units of work).

Update

If you build a road on top of a slower existing road, if both roads use the same resources, 30% of the cost of the existing road will be deducted from the cost of the new road (for example, a dirt road will provide 120 jobs and 36 firewood strips when crossing to a stone road).

Note: The railway cannot be upgraded.

Allies help

Allied groups can help build railways and highways.

Effects on movement

RRotR Roads not only provides a customizable fare factor compared to the base games, but also partially or completely reduces the cost of travel.

Rails only partially increase fares. This is due to the fact that SRTS trains that carry loaded and used trains use textured drop pod sprites, so the train does not take into account the terrain on the world map and can change the speed using the train settings srts. For this reason, prefabricated rails are primarily intended for aesthetic purposes only. The total fare factor (60%) used for both rail tracks and glitterrail reflects the overall increase in speed that people and animals receive when traveling on railway tracks rather than on conventional terrain or specially built roads.

To see the resources required for each type of road or railway, see the preview of the construction menu above.

Note that these effects apply both to generated roads (from the base game) and to rails and roads built from rrotr. Finally, water can be used for both glitter road and glitterrails and railways, but unfortunately no road or rail of any type can be built on ice or sea ice. The basic game doesn't allow it, and neither Lokoneko nor I have found a solution.
