About This Mod

The Type 38 was a modification of the Type 30 rifle, which proved unreliable during the Russo-Japanese War. It was simpler, safer and had a dust cover to prevent contamination of the chamber. It proved to be more reliable, but concerns were raised about the relatively low production of 6.5 caliber ammunition compared to other modern rifles of the time. There were several variants, including carbines and cavalry carbines. The Type 44 cavalry carbine had a bayonet with a hook, intended for bayonet fencing, next to the weapon. Most of the Type 44 survivors seem to have lost their dust cover.
