About This Mod

Sodium Mod (1.20.4) is a free replacement for Minecraft's open-source client rendering engine, which significantly improves frame rate, reduces microstuttering, and fixes graphical problems in Minecraft.

The modern OpenGL rendering pipeline for rendering chunks, which uses multi-rendering technology to significantly reduce the CPU load (~90%) when rendering the world. This greatly increases the frame rate on most computers that are not cluttered by GPUs or other components, and even if the GPU does not catch up, the CPU can work on other rendering tasks in wait, resulting in a more stable frame-by-frame time.

The vertex data in the rendering fragments became more compact, reducing the demands on video memory and bandwidth by about 40%.

Upgrading adjacent blocks now takes advantage of multithreading, which greatly reduces the delay spikes that occur when updating chunks.

Early in the rendering process, the faces of blocks that are not visible (or face away from the camera) are stripped out, so there is not a lot of geometry that is processed by the GPU and immediately discarded. For integrated GPUs, this significantly reduces memory bandwidth requirements and provides acceleration even when bound to a GPU.

The wide possibilities of optimizing the loading of chunks and rendering of blocks allow to significantly speed up the loading of chunks and to reduce the frame rate.

Numerous optimizations for vertex construction and matrix transformations that greatly accelerate rendering of block entities, mobs and objects.

Many memory management and allocation improvements that reduce memory consumption and lag caused by garbage collection.

Many graphical fixes for smoother lighting effects.

Smooth lighting of liquids and other special units.

Smooth mixing of blocks and liquids in the biome, which significantly improves the quality of graphics and significantly reduces the computation.

Faster texture updates on most hardware (especially AMD cards) because animated textures that are not displayed in the world are not updated.

... And so on, and this list continues to be written after the first release.

The mod boasts wide compatibility with the Fabric fashion ecosystem compared to other mods, giving you the feel of a real block game without compromising the appearance of the game.

If you are migrating from Optifine, you can expect a significant performance improvement over Optifine, but you will be deprived of some small features while the Fabric community creates other free and open alternatives. Sodium and Optifine are incompatible with each other.
