About This Mod

"Does anyone else notice a strange squeaking sound every time Clive runs? As if on purpose, when the armor moves."

"I just got Jill, and as I'm running around, I get an unbearable high-frequency electrical/metal sound. Really killing the game for me now"

"The journey with Jill becomes unbearable. When will she become a Sephiroth?"

"This bitch beeps like a Square Pants Spunchbob!"

Yes, these are REAL messages from real, live people online. Did that happen to you? You enjoy a new game, immersing yourself in the world of Final Fantasy for the 16th time, and here the camera is too close to your new friend Jill. There are pleasant ringtones in your ears, keys and pockets stuffed with coins, and you realize how subtly, almost tastefully, Clive's leather boots creak, and you smile, appreciating the intricacies of the game's sound design.

And then, after 20 hours, you realize that it doesn't stop. Never stops. And no matter how hard you try, you just can't help hearing him.

This mod (hopefully) replaces the more squeaky sound effects of Clive's footsteps with copies of less squeaky alternatives, prioritizing matching lengths and sounds as much as possible, and disables the sound of "ringing coins" in Jill's armor. Because, although I like the squeak of tight leather pants no less than others, there is such a thing as too much good.

As the game replaces them with copies of other, less offensive sound files, the overall technical sound diversity is reduced - but in perspective, the game has hundreds of sound effects for armor-only movement, and a few hundred individual footstep sounds left untouched, with a total of about 20 armor sounds replaced. In practice, I personally find that any hypothetical repetition is completely unnoticeable.

INSTALLATION:

  • If you have not already done so, install Reloaded-II Mod Manager and FFXVI Mod Loader.
  • Drag a zip folder to the FFXVI Reloaded-II menu (if dragging doesn't work, you may need to restart the mod manager).
  • Turn on the mod and click "launch app".

FAQ:

"I can still hear a squeak. Who should I sue?"

Since none of the sound effects are indicated, I removed the most egregious squeaks in the first place, so as not to accidentally replace something important. Sometimes there are sounds with a very quiet squeak or squeak that is sufficiently muted by other sounds, so I missed them. However, I would say with relative confidence that the total number of squeaks has decreased by 90%. But the rattle should be reduced by 100%, which is quite impressive in today's economy.

"Will it work with another fashion?"

Perhaps! To be honest, I'm not even sure this mod works with itself, so consider this a potential moment for all of us to grow and change.

"Does it work on other characters?"

Are there any other characters? I'm not done yet, but if anyone else gets on my nerves, I can update it later.

"I hate clinking, but I like Clive's squeaky pants (or vice versa). May I add one?"

I have no idea, but Clive and Jill's sound effects are in separate files in the fashion folder, so you can probably delete one or the other. You may also need to delete the file 0016.diff.pac (NOT the usual 0016.pac) from the FINAL FANTASY XVI\data folder if you have already started a game with it to allow it to be recreated. If it doesn't work, shout to me and I'll make separate versions.

"You did it wrong! Instead, you had to do this. Die!"

It's not a question, but you're probably right! Be sure to let me know in the comments, and I'll try to fix it if I can.
