London 2.5
About This Mod
Made about 30% more to make it work better in the game, but otherwise accurate (the true scale of 1 to 1 covers only Westminster - Tower Bridge), the height data is imported, so the Thames and the River Lee, flowing from the north, look as they should be.
Features current rivers flowing into the sea to the east, working connections with ships and realistic road and rail entrances with some major motorways in the center to help you get started.
It has forestry on the edge of the map, and oil and ore in East London, which used to be a major industry in the city.
This map was thoroughly tested within hours and underwent many changes from the first.
Changes to Version 2.5
I realized that the link to the eastern highway simply looked "wrong", because in real life the main "A13" runs north of the double bend of the Lee River before meeting the Thames. Limitations of scale and the fact that I could not make the River Lee smaller because of the tools in the map editor led to the redesigned A13 interchanges, the Blackwall Tunnel Bridge and the branch leading southeast to the Silvertown industrial area, to be to some extent fictional. However, they are now more accurate than before, and this also separates the main thoroughfare from what will undoubtedly be the main industrial area on most maps, so should help with traffic flow. An added bonus of this new layout is that when the game finally has tunnels, people will have much more space to remove the bridge and make a real tunnel in Blackwall.
Many railway lines have been doubled. Because the games tend to generate excessive rail traffic, I decided to try to help by doubling most of the rail lines outside the play area. This will probably not even be noticed, but should help to give railway traffic a buffer to reduce congestion.
The river bank near Vauxhall in the west has been corrected as it was very close to flooding.
Added a little more elevation of the terrain in the area of Tower Hill, as in real life.
Version 2.0
The river and water systems have been completely redesigned. Riverbeds now flow smoothly upstream to spawning points, ensuring that the river's source is above most potential dam sites, so current continues when hydroelectric dams are used.
The river bank level has been completely reworked to adapt to different levels of flow, from normal to higher water levels with hydrodams, trying to be as low as possible so that the Thames does not look like a canyon!
A potential shipping link allowed me to lower the banks better in the eastern part of the river to give more options for the accommodation of freight and passenger harbors.
The docks of Dog Island were reworked to become smaller due to previous comments, they were too large.
Exterior road and rail services have been completely redesigned, giving much more scope and maximizing the ring road similar to London's North and South Ring Roads. Unfortunately, since version 1.06, we don't have tunnels in the game, so it's impossible to make a full cycle, since the eastern end would require a bridge that would block access to shipping. The Blackwall crossing mentioned below should be a tunnel, but for this reason I had to use bridges.
Blackwall Interchange has been completely rebuilt with a much more efficient overpass system instead of the old roundabout.
Also used are two custom Steam nodes in the layout,
Samković and Samković Ring Road Bridge
'Prins Clausplen' (4-lane interchange) by makemakey
Great design, THANK YOU guys! (you DO NOT need to download them separately for this map to work, as they use the default components)
Version 1.5 of the Blackwall Junction (to the right of the starting area, next to the bridge where the Blackwall Tunnel should be in real life) was improved. The height of the land in the north around the source of the Li River has also been increased to better provide for potential future flood-free hydropower plants.
A second picture has been added showing the actual grid regarding the street plan of London, so that those of you who are not familiar with it can orient themselves.
Feel free to edit and share, but don’t make it your own.
Hopefully this will be my last change, and now I can start building a real city on it! Created with care by the man who grew up in this great city, enjoy!
